In over 30 years of practice, I have helped individuals and couples with anxiety and depression related to relationship trauma. I have helped couples rediscover their love and commitment to one another. I have also helped couples divorce with kindness and respect. I have helped individuals recover from the loss of their primary relationship and forge a new vision for their future. I have helped many people with childhood trauma integrate those experiences, develop a new sense of self, and create a life worth celebrating.

Or if you could start to feel more confident that as a parent you can support your child without also feeling lost in their tornado of emotions?
Your child has been having a hard time with “big feelings” and “big behaviors”. You have spent hours searching to find ways to help your young child have less intense meltdowns and tantrums, or to help your grade schooler better handle transitions or unexpected change, or to help your tween worry less about “adult things” and things they can’t control. . It has been extremely difficult seeing your child struggle and you really wish you could just make it all stop, but you’re out of ideas. I know that the process of finding a counselor for your child can be exhausting and intimidating, but you don’t have to walk this journey alone.

Therapy is a collaborative effort between the person seeking assistance and the professional. Often times you know what you need, you simply need a sounding board and perhaps someone less emotionally invested in the situation to help clarify and encourage action and change. A fresh perspective may give way to new ideas, new coping skills and more tools to help manage every day life and stressors.

Women, despite being the foundation of our society (I am a little biased, of course), are often given too much stress to manage effectively. We have to be employees, mothers, wives, friends, daughters and sisters, just to name a few roles that we play. When there is friction or "conflict" in any one of these roles, life can get complicated. I am passionate about supporting women in our many phases of life. I also serve the Latino (Spanish-speaking) community in a culturally sensitive manner.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
