When tragedy, trauma,
loss
,
grief
, or even mild anxiety invade our lives we often feel overwhelmed in our distress, disconnected from others, including those we love, and lost in our loneliness.
I am old enough to know that life does not always lend itself to simplistic answers. At various periods we all find ourselves in difficult circumstances that feel overwhelming, sometimes related to life changing tragedies like
death
, divorce, new medical diagnosis like cancer, job
loss
, or catastrophic injury. In these situations your life changes in an instant. There is an avalanche of distressing emotions and life no longer feels solid or stable. As a therapist who has experienced some serious, life changing tragedies, I understand those feelings and am specifically trained in
grief
and trauma.

Have you experienced a
loss
, change, or transition that has left you thinking, “this isn’t how it was supposed to be” or “no one understands”? Because of this, you feel hopeless, or afraid you aren’t going to be able to go on. Maybe you are caring for someone with a chronic or terminal illness and you feel exhausted and angry, and then almost immediately guilty for feeling that way. When you try to talk to others, they tell you to "think of the good things", which then leads you to feel more anger and frustration. You are tired of feeling like this.

I work with people who are experiencing
grief
, anxiety, and depression.
I bring an empathic, warm, and supportive approach to the therapeutic relationship. I have a passion for helping my clients achieve their goals and reach their full potential. I practice with the belief that we all have the strength and the abilities to live another day and face our difficulties head on. Life is full of difficult times, hardships, and unforseen events. However, it is our perspective and response to those events that shape the way that we think, feel, and live.

My experience and specialization include the assessment and treatment of children and families experiencing: the mental health effects of trauma, abuse,
grief
, depression, anxiety, relationship attachment disruption, mood disorders, and self-harm.
I work to provide a holistic, personal form of care that provides each client with the tools they need to overcome life's challenging moments. I take an integrative approach to helping others better understand how their patterns are impacting their lives and what options they have to do things differently. I utilize a creative, expressive approach to combine art and music into my practice to simulate new pathways in the brain and reprocess trauma. Implementing creativity is a critical component in the healing process and has particular power when working with children and adolescents.

*ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS: avail below (updated 5/17)* When in session, I want to foster safe spaces where challenging conversations and vulnerable emotions can be explored and processed, and achievements are celebrated. When stress, anxiety, depression,
grief
, and other emotional distress occurs, I meet my clients where they are at. Just because we can do something alone, does not mean we have to. Whatever stage of life you are in, let's work through those personal transitions and obstacles. Thus, I believe the best clinical relationships come when both of us are open, curious, and eager for the growth to come from session-to-session.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
