My experience and specialization include the assessment and treatment of children and families experiencing: the mental health effects of trauma, abuse, grief, depression, anxiety,
relationship
attachment disruption, mood disorders, and self-harm.
I work to provide a holistic, personal form of care that provides each client with the tools they need to overcome life's challenging moments. I take an integrative approach to helping others better understand how their patterns are impacting their lives and what options they have to do things differently. I utilize a creative, expressive approach to combine art and music into my practice to simulate new pathways in the brain and reprocess trauma. Implementing creativity is a critical component in the healing process and has particular power when working with children and adolescents.

Most of the problems with
couples
, families, and/or individuals can be majorly improved simply by better and more productive communication.
Finding the right counselor is very important! With that in mind, don't read a bio and pick someone. Take advantage of my free 20 minute phone consultation! That's all it's going to take to tell if I'll be a good fit or not. I have over 15 years of experience working with children, families, and adults. I'm good at getting people to talk about what the real problem is and not dance around the elephant in the room. You are not always going to get from me what you want to hear but I guarantee you are going to get from me what you need to hear.

I understand the importance of building trust in the early stages of therapy. While I am caring and empathetic, I am also honest and able to challenge clients to step outside of their comfort zones and learn new ways to navigate life's challenges. With children and teens, I utilize a collaborative approach and work with the parent(s) to help recognize behavioral patterns and put systems into place for lasting change and results. I treat adults for issues including anxiety, anger,

Undergirding any approach I may employ is the essential quality of the therapist-client
relationship
.
I am interested in working with individuals across a range of presenting concerns. I see my work with clients as a partnership. I accept my role to listen and validate, and to offer feedback that may help the individual better recognize the patterns and experiences that are impeding growth and healing. I have an additional focus on supporting folks who are transitioning to, or fully in, retirement, addressing needs and concerns particular to this time of life.

It is possible to build a better
relationship
with yourself and others.
You are sick of feeling the guilt, frustration, and a constant need to “fix” yourself. You’re tired of yo-yo dieting and hating yourself. You want the guilt and shame to go away so you can feel normal. You feel like you gain weight just by looking at food. You crave sugar all the time. It seems like others don’t experience this struggle like you do. You don't feel in control of your emotions or your body. Work and home responsibilities make things seem even harder to control. Life feels like a vicious cycle you can’t escape from. This cycle is exhausting and you are ready for a change.

Born and raised in Apex, North Carolina I feel deeply connected to my community. I chose to enter the field of counseling because of how much I enjoy working with people, and I am thrilled that I have the opportunity to serve this neighborhood. I specialize in working with adolescents, typically ages eleven to twenty one. I know from personal experience as well as my formal education that these are formative years and can be particularly difficult to navigate. I specialize in anxiety, grief, family conflict, self esteem, stress, and spirituality.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
