I believe that true change doesn’t come from shame or self-rejection, but from learning to meet ourselves—our feelings, flaws, and fears—with honesty and compassion.
I have been a North Carolina LCMHC since 2006. I completed both my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, along with graduate coursework at the University of San Francisco. Beyond my Master’s, I have taken Doctoral coursework at Ohio University and North Carolina State.

I specialize in working with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, life transitions, and identity exploration, with a special focus on, LGBTQ+ affirming care and support for first responders and military personnel .
What stands out about my approach is that I’m both compassionate and active in the therapy room. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all model — instead, I take an eclectic, client-centered approach that draws from a variety of evidence-based techniques to meet your unique needs.

My specialty is anxiety but I see clients with a range of clinical issues or simply just coping with life events and transitions.
Cognitive-behavioral therapy has been very useful to treat a variety of issues such as anxiety, depression, and Bipolar disorder. Clients find CBT helpful w/ transitions such as entering high school or college, separation or divorce, mid-life and aging.

My specialties include treating perinatal mood disorders, depression, anxiety, panic attacks and assisting people through difficult life circumstances (divorce, moving to a new area, caregiver stress, new parents, grief and loss and dealing with family conflict.) I have also recently been trained in EMDR.
Have you come to a point in your life where you feel like you could use some support? Well, you are in good company. In this fast-paced world with an endless list of demands and responsibilities we sometimes feel we are being pulled in so many different directions that we can’t keep up. With so much attention focused on work, our relationships, parenting etc. we often lose sight of what we want in life. Sometimes we find that we are merely going through the motions and missing out on the meaningful connections with the people that we love. I enjoy helping people connect back to who they are and what brings them joy in life.

Through focused Sport Intensives, or weekly evidence-based therapy, we'll tackle anxiety, self-doubt, body image, and perfectionism - so you can feel steady under pressure, resilient, and aligned with your goals.
As a former Division I gymnast and current business owner, I understand the pressure of high-achievers and perfectionists. Talking with someone who really gets it, and learning strategies to apply to your life outside of session, can really help you find freedom from perfectionism, rebuild self-trust, and feel worthy beyond your achievements and appearance.

In over 30 years of practice, I have helped individuals and couples with anxiety and depression related to relationship trauma.
When we work together, you will discover the connecting threads through the stories of your life that represent your beliefs about yourself, others, and the world around you. Examining those beliefs will allow you to validate the belief or discover it is not an accurate representation of your life. From there, change can begin.

When I sit with clients who face depression, anxiety, and/or grief, my approach focuses on offering a safe space where we can explore and reflect on the source(s) of their struggle and collaborate on strategies to alleviate their suffering.
Clients who seek my services embrace spiritually-integrated counseling and therapy, which combines empirically-based interventions with spiritual resources in their journey of transformation. Despite the different reasons that bring clients to therapy, all of them need a safe space to unravel the problematic narratives of their lives, embrace the possibility of new futures, and learn new practices that help strengthen personal and communal bonds.

I have over 10 years of experience working with adolescents and adults in addressing anxiety, depression, life transitions, self-esteem, and trauma.
Do you struggle with people-pleasing tendencies that affect your relationships with others? Do you tend to put others feelings and needs before your own? Do you struggle with setting boundaries and often avoid conflict? Now more than ever, people are feeling overwhelmed by the need to “do it all”. Putting others needs before your own and not taking care of yourself can lead to long-term negative effects on your physical and mental health. I believe that there is hope and encourage others to “fill their cup”!

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
