My approach to therapy is thoughtful, attentive, and empathic. I seek to hold the complexity of who you are in mind as I listen carefully and engage with you in an exploration of what troubles you. From this place of respect and care, a deepened understanding of your self and your experience in the world can develop. I believe that this deepened understanding is at the heart of the growth and healing that therapy can provide. When a more structured approach may be helpful, I can draw on expertise in mindfulness-based approaches or on training in the Open Dialogue model to complement the work we do together.
I most commonly help people with depression, anxiety, trauma, and relationship issues. I also have a strong grasp of multicultural and existential/spiritual issues and I have an additional specialty in working with lived experience that does not align with that of the majority, i.e. what sometimes gets called psychosis.
I recognize that finding a therapist you feel comfortable working with can be difficult, so I treat the first session as a chance for you to get a feel for how well we might work together and for me to learn how I might best be of help to you. I also provide supervision to other professionals.
