Living is a process that is often painful, just by its nature, and not because people are doing anything wrong. Whether that pain manifests as sadness, loneliness, guilt, shame, boredom, numbness, stagnation, anxiety, or fear, when these feelings show up, they may leave us feeling trapped and powerless in the face of the challenges of life. My focus is providing a non-judgmental environment in which people are comfortable building a greater awareness of their thoughts, feelings, behaviors, habits, and relationship dynamics, and then helping them to use that awareness to live their lives in ways that allow them to thrive.
My work is rooted in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, with an emphasis on mindfulness. The approach I use focuses on building self-knowledge for the sake of taking action and changing behavior that leads to suffering into behavior that leads to wellness. I also draw upon feminist, humanist, and existentialist perspectives to provide a more varied toolset.
My goal is to make sure you feel respected, heard, and understood by me, and to become better able to respect, hear, and understand yourself. If you think that I could be a good fit for your therapeutic needs, please feel free to contact me. Reaching out for help is always a vulnerable act and I will do my best to make it worth your effort.
