I’m Nate Hinerman, PhD, LMFT, a therapist, educator, and professor based in San Francisco. I serve as Dean of Undergraduate Programs at Golden Gate University, where I’m also a tenured Professor of Psychology and Chair of the Psychology Department. I also teach at the University of San Francisco in both the Nursing School and the Religious Studies Department. In addition, I serve as Chair of the San Francisco End of Life Network, a community-based support and education group for hospice and palliative care professionals and patients.
My work is grounded in both psychology and philosophy, especially when it comes to exploring human suffering, grief, loss, dying, depression, and anxiety. I believe therapy should feel like a place where you can bring your full self without judgment. Through a strong therapeutic relationship and a steady, compassionate approach,

Revolving Grief Groups, email to inquire
Grief groups are offered at various time of the year, for all types of loss. We are starting an 8-Week Grief Group, which consist of eight weekly sessions exploring any type of loss, including traumatic loss, no matter how long ago. This is a closed group for adults of any age, with a structured format for each session. Group A in 2025: Mondays, Feb 17 through April 7th, 5:00pm to 6:30pm. The cost of the group is $350 for the 8 sessions.
