I am a clinical psychologist with a geriatrics specialty, meaning I have advanced, specialized training in addressing the mental health needs of adults aged 60 and older. I primarily assist clients in coping with cognitive changes (e.g., a dementia diagnosis), life transitions, depression, anxiety, caregiver strain, trauma (e.g., Post-Traumatic Stress, Military Sexual Trauma), and grief/ bereavement. I also conduct cognitive/neuropsychological assessments. Clients feel comfortable with me because of my competency level in treating the unique needs of older adults.
All too often, practitioners group people aged 18 and above under the umbrella of “adults” and have not received specialized training for treating clients above the age of 65. However, the needs and life experiences of an 18-year-old are vastly different from those of a 65-year-old. I specialize in working with older adults for psychotherapy and assessment.
It is a joy and a privilege to work with older adults, and I strongly believe that it is never too late in life to grow, change, and achieve your desired well-being. Psychotherapy is a collaborative process, and I draw on a variety of evidence-based approaches. Although group therapy is on hold due to the pandemic, this will also be an option in the future.
