Life can be messy, difficult and confusing. Sometimes we just need a safe place to talk. I would love the opportunity to listen and help untangle to messy parts of your life.

Beyond the fear is freedom, through the pain is peace and out of the darkness is light. In these challenging times; it's more important than ever to know that you're not alone. Reaching out for support is a courageous first step toward a new you, a new way and a new beginning. I work with adults, couples, teens and families seeking therapeutic support with Anxiety/Depression, Trauma/PTSD (Acute/Complex), Grief/Loss, Life Transitions, Self-Esteem, Co-Dependency and Relational issues.

Being a parent of a child with special needs is one of the most challenging lives to live. Through the daily chaos and the appointments, don’t forget you. Your wants, needs and dreams matter. Together, we will partner to acknowledge the triumphs and process the trials. You will learn how to grieve the life that you thought you would have and move forward to fully living the life that you’ve got. I help my clients with parenting strategies and resources along with daily coping skills. We may identify triggers and process past trauma that impacts you as a parent and work on your anxiety, depression, or other mental health diagnoses.

At Carolina Health & Recovery we provide a wealth of services but really focus to specialize in a few. Our society lives in a “doc in the box” and a “program” treatment world. But, from my experience, people rarely show up seeking mental health or addiction treatment because of something that started ailing them last week. Most people have suffered months, years, and sometimes a lifetime before seeking help. Often times people have sought help multiple times in the past, but with no lasting relief. Some never knew there was a different way of life. Others “never had a problem” until he/she came into their life. See how we can help!

I know first hand the twists and turns life can take you on. I enjoy assisting others on that same journey who are feeling the pressures of everyday life. I connect easily with people of all ages and walk along side their struggles with them allowing them to be who they are. I believe each struggle is an opportunity for growth and a lesson to propel us into the person we are to become. Depression and anxiety rates are higher now than ever before. You are not alone if you are feeling overwhelmed and distraught. The truth is you are enough and I would love the opportunity to walk through the battlefield with you.

Lifestyle transitions are especially difficult. Anxiety can form while making the steps toward progression in life. As a recent college graduate, I understand the anxiety associated with academic performance. I am familiar with many forms of anxiety including sports performance, relationships, interfamilial dynamics, LGBTQ+ issues, and childhood trauma.

“No” is not in your vocabulary. You pride yourself on being the most helpful, the best son/daughter/mother/father/community member. You were raised in a religious/spiritual tradition that discouraged expressing your needs. Maybe you overcommit yourself, and you've been overwhelmed by everything going on in life. You’ve always felt “different” from everyone around you and don’t quite know where you fit in. You want to better understand yourself and communicate with others. Perhaps you are part of the LGBTQ+ community and have struggled to find affirming therapists. Perhaps you are looking for someone neurodiversity-affirming.

Life is full of ups and downs, little and big crises, and at times can be confusing and overwhelming. However, within these struggles there is hope, light and room for growth. My own life journey has led me to the counseling field and helped me find my passion. I am a strong advocate of personal development and strongly believe in the importance of prioritizing mental wellness to live out our life in the most fulfilling manner. Empathy, competency and connection to others helps me build a strong therapeutic alliance with my clients to help them grow.

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
