So, if you're open to new ideas and ready to dive deep into your narrative, let's begin!.
I want to create a judgment-free space where your unique story is cherished, perfections are embraced, and your journey is the center of our work. My commitment is to use warmth, compassion, and understanding to help unravel the narratives we all weave about how we "should" navigate life. It's about your authenticity, vulnerability, and rawness. In the therapeutic space, perfection is neither expected nor sought. It's a comforting space for the beautiful messiness of your experiences, where words don't need to be flawless, imperfections are treated as unique threads in your story, and self-discovery unfolds at your pace.

Let's take the time to talk about what gets in your way. Together we will identify roadblocks, examine patterns, and reauthor a story that aligns with a new vision. Change creation does not have to be limited by your past experiences or future fears. Change happens with compassion and support. Using connection as a foundation for courage. We will have an open, honest, empathic, and nonjudgmental exchange of stories.

NOTE: I am not accepting new clients at this time but would love to refer you to my colleagues at Pulse Wellness Coop. Moving through change can feel daunting and overwhelming, especially when we go it alone. Our inner critic tells us that we’re not doing it the right way, or maybe that we can’t do it at all. That desire towards perfection pulls us away from our authentically flawed selves, who both get to make mistakes and learn from them–how beautiful!

I see my job as helping you reconnect to and live from your inner truth. Do you feel you have been living in ways that feel like "not the real me"? Together we can uncover and validate what makes sense about unwanted behaviors and find the important impulse that lives underneath. I believe we each have wisdom inside that gets covered over with protective strategies, like the sun behind the clouds. I work with individuals and couples to facilitate reconnection to the heart of self and others.

I strive to provide a safety net in therapy, free from judgment and shame, so that my clients feel safe to explore their relational and erotic desires, practice articulating their needs and boundaries in relationships, and touch on any shadowy parts that need attention and grace. As well as being able to provide general individual and couples support in therapy, I have specialized education and training in working with sexual concerns related to sexual dysfunctions, painful sex, shame or anxiety around sex, and improvement in pleasure. I bring a calm, knowledgeable, and sex positive presence to our exploration of sexual intimacy.

I enjoy working with motivated individuals who want to see change. I work with both individuals and couples/Poly/CNM who are navigating challenges in their lives or their relationships. Maybe you've found yourself feeling disconnected from your partner(s) or having the same fight over and over again. Or maybe you feel like something isn't working in your life but you just can't put your finger on it. I love helping clients explore where they're stuck and collaborate with them to find creative solutions.

Do you feel exhausted keeping it all together? Or maybe like your brain has a hamster wheel spinning through responsibilities, forgotten tasks, and “should-dos,” without the energy to do them? Are you scrambling to cover up dropped responsibilities? Does the feeling of shame and overwhelm make you want to quit, but slowing down feels impossible? Together, we can find space to balance the spinning plates and feel like you don’t have to be on high alert for something crashing down. We can repair dropped plates—relationships, school, work, parenting, or other important things—even if it feels like they can’t be repaired today.

Unsure of who you truly are underneath it all? Have you spent too much time trying to fit into stories that were given to you by circumstances of survival? Showing up as your real self and asking for acceptance can feel like a big risk. I get it. Existing is hard. Sometimes we can feel overwhelmed by the pressure of being our perfect self and hiding what feels right. Therapy can help call in your authentic self, and call out what doesn’t feel right, so you can cultivate a life that feels fulfilling. You are allowed to fall completely apart and be met with compassion and support through identity’s growing pains.

Human minds and bodies are creative and our systems find ways to keep us functioning safely through extraordinary and difficult circumstances. There often comes a time, however, when the tools and skills we have relied on to keep us safe are no longer working and we need to find new ways to move through the world as we build the life we want to live.

Therapy is deeply vulnerable work, but by building trust in the therapeutic relationship we can explore and identify automatic patterns and habits that may be keeping you from feeling your best and work together to practice new ways of living. In my work, I pull from a variety of theoretical approaches including Brainspotting, EMDR, CBT, Family Systems Theory, Internal Family Systems, Attachment Theory, Narrative Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, and Mindfulness Based practices.

I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Narrative Therapy with a focus on listening to your story.
Hello my name is Jules (she/her) it is nice to meet you. I’m a mental health therapist located in Oregon, welcoming to people of diverse social, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. I specialize in working with adolescents (14+) and adults presenting with issues related to depression, anxiety, PTSD, grief and loss, history of abuse, sexual assault, sexual and gender identity, and self-harm. In my approach, traumatic experiences must be approached through a trauma informed lens, meaning creating an environment that understands trauma as multifaceted while minimizing risk of re-traumatization

I use an eclectic approach to counseling, integrating elements of narrative therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, and existential therapy.
I work from a client-centered and strengths-based perspective, which views counseling as a collaborative process and the client as the expert in their own life. I work with each client to foster self-exploration, strengthen their relationships with themselves and others, and to find meaning and purpose in their lives. I specialize in working with ADHD, trauma, anxiety, relationship struggles, and identity issues. I identify as queer and particularly enjoy working with the LGBTQ+ population.

Accepting new clients as of 4/17/24. I believe you and your relationships are too important to put off therapy. Maybe it’s that reoccurring fight leaving you stuck, unseen, or feeling hopeless in your relationship? Or you are ready to address the anxiety, negative thoughts, or loss of motivation that's been accepted as your new normal. Maybe what previously worked feels dull in this season of life and you want to see and feel progress again. I utilize an integrative approach centered on evidence-based practices such as Emotionally Focused Therapy, ACT, Narrative, and others to help you accomplish your desired outcome in therapy.

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
