I understand the importance of integrating not only evidenced based interventions, but also compassion into the counseling relationship. I am an experienced clinical therapist with almost ten years of experience. My career began in substance abuse and then transitioned into serving individuals with mental health challenges. I use a number of strategies to help individuals achieve their goal with a few tactics as examining how perceptions impact problem behaviors, exploring how childhood events impact current functioning & coping as an adult and working to develop tools for improvement of emotional regulation. I also provide Christian counseling to those who are interested.

Life can be hard. From personal addictions, mental health struggles to relationship concerns, the guidance and support of a third party can help. It can feel daunting, or even impossible, to tackle areas that are causing distress when alone, but with the support of a professional, relief can become attainable.

"Some prisons don't require bars to keep people locked inside. All it takes is their perception that they belong there. A soul who believes that he/she can't leave, doesn't." Sometimes it just takes someone to help support you through your process of breaking free, so you can grow as you are meant to. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, who has had 10+ years experience conducting Mental Health counseling to adults & children, & providing Domestic Violence advocacy, assisting survivors through the Family Court & Criminal Court process, safety planning, & being an emotional support through the healing process.

Have you been carrying a lot of emotions and experiences? I believe that therapy is the opportunity to talk freely without judgement, to someone who is ready to listen & help them unpack their struggles. For many people, exploring options for therapy may be something that feels uncomfortable or not encouraged by those around them. The courage and vulnerability to talk with someone new about your struggles such as being a new mom or struggling with body image and eating habits, should not go unseen.

Hello and thank yourself for taking the first step toward healing and becoming whole! Working with trauma and the past is an incredible passion of mine. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), which allows me to help get to the root of issues for clients instead of just tackling surface symptoms. I take the belief that many issues stem from our younger years, which is why working to resolve these wounds lets us form a more healthy functional adult self. I truly believe in our capabilities and think we are all so much stronger than we think.

My orientation to psychotherapy is eclectic drawing heavily on family systems and narrative models which means that I recognize that problems affect not only individuals, but also the social systems the person participates in.
I use a short term, practical psychotherapy approach. I believe that all human beings have problems at various points in their lives and that these problems can best be dealt with in an objective, honest, and caring climate. Labeling, stigmatizing and categorizing people often makes problems worse. Objective, and yet personal, individualized treatment approaches are always taken. While the goal of therapy is to minimize, if not eliminate, the problems people struggle against, it is also important to recognize, acknowledge, and enhance people's talents, abilities, and strengths. Client confidentiality is rigorously maintained at all times.

I also use elements of Narrative and Acceptance and Commitment Therapies to complement supportive therapy.
Hello! I am a lover of all things weird, strange and wonderful. I unapologetically laugh loudly and cry often. I believe that everyone has the potential for healing and peace within our struggle. We all can write our own stories! I cannot fix you, but I would love to walk along side you on the journey. My own bumpy road has included a stint in the Army and a previous career as an English teacher. As a social worker, I have worked in Addictions, Community Mental Health, and the Department of Veterans Affairs before pursuing private practice. I am also a mother of splendid adults, a wife, artist, dog walker, cat herder and gardener.

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
