I am passionate about helping people connect to their truest selves. I entered the field of counseling because I believe we all want lives of meaning and connection, and most of us feel a deficit. Everyone’s journey towards living a healthy, satisfying, and rewarding life looks different, and my approach to therapy is to support you in reaching your goals on your own terms. Because I don’t believe there is a “right” answer for healing from grief and trauma, feeling more positive or hopeful, less anxious, or improving relationships, I offer a variety of treatment approaches and together we adjust our approach to be the best fit for you.

I draw on a wide variety of theories: Client-centered, Existential, and Jungian psychology and combine them in a creative way in my practice to provide an integrative approach which is educational, solution-oriented and transformational.

Sometimes feelings are overwhelming without a reason. Reaching out for help seems like one more thing. It sometimes feels like you are shattered into a billion pieces. I get it, we've all been there. I work mostly with teens, having been a troubled and angry depressed teen myself. I have seen people take the broken pieces of their lives and create beauty. I can walk with you on that journey to healing.

I believe that all of us want to live meaningful lives, connected to loved ones and contributing to the world in some way. To do so, we must learn to fully accept ourselves, connect with others in healthy ways, and develop our unique gifts. My intention as a therapist is to create a warm and safe space for you to do the brave work of addressing past wounds, updating stories that keep you small, and helping you grow a sense of inner peace and outer resilience. As social animals, we humans often need trusted relational support to heal and evolve into our true potential. I am honored to be that person and create that space for you!

We are a team of mental health clinicians working together to serve the Grand Valley. Our clinicians provide both in-person and telehealth services to best meet the needs of our clientele. Our clinicians accept most insurances and our supervised LPCCs/LCSWs are able to accept Medicaid and Second Wind Funding. Our team members employ a variety of skills and techniques in therapy, including EMDR, TF-CBT, DBT, ACT, Geek Therapeutics, CAMS, and Play Therapy. I treat individuals experiencing symptoms of grief and loss, trauma, PTSD, C-PTSD, depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, life transitions, and relationships. I have experience working with individuals of all ages in both clinical and crisis settings. I believe personal growth and change happens when the counseling process is purposeful and intentional. I want to assist people in understanding their problems, defining goals, and developing realistic action plans. To help you get to know me, I go by my nickname "Sam". I have over 30 years of experience working with individuals over the age of 14 and families. I specialize in helping families avoid and survive high conflict divorce. I coach parents about parental responsibility as part of divorce. I have a major area of interest working with individuals with Dissociative Disorders. I work with offenders of Domestic Violence. I enjoy working with adults who want to improve their quality of life through personal growth. I have experience working with the GLBTQ+ community. I have additional training working with Veterans of all services .

This quote illustrates what I believe is the essence of the therapeutic relationship. I believe the relationship between therapist and client is characterized by the sacred nature of the relationship and that change and healing can occur as a result of the quality of presence, sense of safety, and connection cultivated in therapy.

Relationship is key in this process you are exploring -- it is in our therapeutic relationship where Alchemy happens. Therapy is not only about your story - it is about you, the Storyteller (how does the story live In us? affect us and our lives?). Most of my clients were either not sure about therapy, or they had already had a bad experience with therapy in the past. I pride myself on giving a different kind of experience. I’m real, I show up fully, (I tend to swear a lot unless you tell me not to) I will never talk down to you or presume what is best for you. You’re in charge.
