Trauma and the resulting symptoms can be a real-life Hydra, the multi-headed monster which can dictate the narrative of your life, impacting everything from sleep and mood to the quality of your relationships.
Notable moments in our lives reveal to us how we feel about ourselves and the lives we are living. Feeling stuck can be one of those revealing moments and while you might be unsure why you even feel this way, this can motivate making those needed changes even while feeling unsure where to start. As a professional eager to hear your story and encourage you in your healthy changes, I am here to work with you in a compassionate, empathetic fashion.

My commitment is to walk alongside you, helping you to rewrite your narrative into one that embraces joy, purpose, and fulfillment.
Navigating through life's losses – be it from divorce, infidelity, death of a loved one, or trauma – can feel like being lost in a maze of grief. It's not just about moving past these experiences; it's about reconciling them in order to create paths towards growth and new beginnings and a new self identity. With my experience, ability, and compassionate approach, I'm here to be your companion in this process, guiding you every step of the way without rushing your journey of healing. We will make known the stories and narratives that you’ve are or have experienced that are limiting you from the living a full meaningful life.

Most of us are looking for peace, with ourselves, in relationships and as we move through our world. In cultivating peace, we may seek relief from difficult emotions or may need support working through a loss or traumatic experience. Whether you are looking to manage depressive symptoms or anxiety, or you desire to cultivate a deeper relationship with yourself and others, knowing our own truth is key. The answer is in each of us; we may just need a little guidance in finding it. I deeply love the work of meeting people where they are and guiding & creatively companioning them into work that enables a richer, more peaceful life.

Taking a few new clients. In Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer there is the Island of Misfit Toys, filled with playthings that seek love but are rejected because they don’t function like traditional toys. Many people we work with feel the same way. They have beautiful personalities, but for one reason or another they just don’t “fit.” Sometimes that shows up through troubles at work or home. Sometimes people just can’t get out of bed each morning. Whatever your challenge, we want you to know you have a home. At Credo, we’ll help you embrace what is unique in you and navigate what often feels like a foreign world.

We are not really taught what it takes to be in a healthy relationship. Honestly, most of us are winging it based the function or dysfunction that we saw from our parents without even realizing that is what we are doing. While most of us are doing our best in our relationships, without intentions or tools we can create habits and behaviors that end up causing disconnect and dissatisfaction with our partners. What if you could learn new tools to be able to feel connected? What if working through conflict didn't have to be a traumatic experience every time it came up?

Looking for a therapist can be a daunting process. I am here to ease the difficulty and offer hope in your search. I will answer questions you most likely have about therapy and maybe some you didn’t know you had. Since there are no two people or situations exactly alike, there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. In our initial phone consultation, I will seek to understand your needs and goals, and we’ll discuss a personalized treatment direction for you and your unique circumstances.

Most people muddle their way through life doing the best they can with the limited information and tools they grew up with. How might life be different if a person took the initiative to understand what they want out of life and relationships, and then develop the healthy habits and tools they need to cultivate that life? It is never too late to change your trajectory by deliberately curating healthy life habits and genuine, well-connected relationships. Imagine growing something healthy and productive out of the ashes of trauma, or cultivating genuine relational connection out of conflict and loneliness.

Becoming skillful with yourself is the work of a lifetime. Symptoms of anxiety, grief, and depression are challenging as we live with never ending change. Life transitions involve attention to developing the ability to "ride the waves" as well as grow and heal. My work is to provide a safe and individualized space for you to accomplish this.

ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS and I accept medicaid Navigating through life can sometimes feel overwhelming. Life can kick us in the gut and making it hard to catch our breath. Sometimes feelings are overwhelming without a reason. Reaching out for help seems like one more thing. It sometimes feels like you are shattered into a billion pieces. I get it, we've all been there. I work mostly with teens, having been a troubled and angry depressed teen myself. I have seen people take the broken pieces of their lives and create beauty. I can walk with you on that journey to healing.

For over twenty years, I've been helping individuals, couples, and families struggling with a range of problems including, but not limited to: anxiety, depression, ADD, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, marital and family distress, infidelity, and sexual addictions. Working as a therapist, researcher, and professor in medical settings throughout my career (University of Texas Medical Branch, University of Nebraska Medical Center) has informed my work with individuals and families to provide whole-personal care, integrating mind, body, and spirit.

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
