As a therapist, I bring life experience and a direct but easygoing approach to helping you with your mental health concerns. Primarily using a mix of Narrative and CBT Therapy (with other methods as needed), I help you discover your ability to work through the issues that are stopping you from being the best “you” possible. I work with Individuals, couples, families, children, and teens. I have experience with dealing with high-conflict divorce and the fallout it can cause. Whether you are a couple looking for a "tune-up", an individual going through a tough patch or you have a teen going through a difficult time, I can help.

By utilizing CBT, Mindfulness, and Narrative therapy, We will explore healthy ways to process your trauma, regulate the extreme emotions, restore broken relationships, and discover your other potentials.
Is anxiety, depression, or trauma holding you back from being your true self? Do you feel stuck in managing difficult life transitions? Now, every little thing becomes super overwhelming. Those negative experiences reopen old wounds and cause new ones. You tried burying your pain hoping it would go away. You feel lonely and tormented. You feel exhausted, stressed, and angry all the time. You wonder how much more you can take. You are unsure of who or where to turn for help. In the midst of this painful journey, you do not have to go through it alone.

I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a practice that focuses on young adults, adults, seniors, veterans, and first responders. I am also a United States Army Combat Veteran, and a father who knows what it is like to put other people's needs before your own. It takes time, exploration, and effort to learn a new way of looking at yourself. It takes time to see what is on the other side of the coin.

Hola and Welcome. My name is Ivet Castañeda Ruiz, I have been a practicing therapist for the last 9 years. Throughout the course of my career I have gained an amplitude of experience working with children, adolescents, individuals and families. I know taking the first step and seeking help may be challenging for some, for that reason I believe in the essence of meeting people where they are. Life is constantly changing around us, the fluidities of life may cause life challenges and obstacles that may result in anxiety, depression, conflict within relationships and/or living inauthentically.

I love working with couples as well as individuals interested in hike or nature-based therapy. From our very first session you will take home practical tools for both communication and relaxation. In moments of stress, you will have less blaming ways to express what you need to keep things from escalating. For those times when you do lose your cool, you will know more about calming yourself down before saying something you regret. I'll help you learn to be kinder to yourself, to be aware of how you talk to yourself. For starters, don't believe everything you think!

The path to mental wellness is a journey through the challenges life has placed in our paths. One cannot live a well-connected life without care and attention to one's own mental wellness. Issues related to anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, grief, family discord or marital stumbling blocks distract your mind and derail your lives, causing emotional turmoil and decreased quality to the living experience. Each of us is responsible to attend and maintain our Mental Wellness as to stay relationally healthy and emotionally engaged in the experience of living.

Welcome! I am passionate to work with you, in your quest for freedom and overcome challenges that you, your child, teenager, partner or family may be experiencing. My educational journey focused on all conditions an individual may be experiencing with a concentration in trauma psychology. I am pleased to say my education sought to include social justice and multicultural awareness. Important components of multicultural awareness include explicit awareness of cultural influences. In society we must be aware of psychological, social, economic and political issues associated with culture, race, class, ethnicity, age, and gender.

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
