It's ok if you don't always feel good about your life or have negative thoughts & feelings about motherhood, and have days when you don't want to do it anymore. You can still love your baby as you wrestle with these feelings. I am committed to helping families as they navigate pregnancy & new parenthood when it is challenging. My medical training and experience as an MD created a firm foundation that enables me to understand physical issues like complicated or multiple pregnancies, children with special needs, delivery complications, and losing a child, and the mental health challenges that can come with those experiences.

My passion is to seek out training in techniques that can help heal the mind, body and spirit. With decades of experiences learning the best techniques available, I am now certified in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) and certified in Brain Spotting with advanced training in both modalities to treat trauma, anxiety, and depression. An individualized plan, using the best techniques for you will be applied. EMDR and Brain Spotting are research based. Both techniques have the potential to heal the brain and body from post traumatic stress. Most clients say, "I don't understand how this works, but I know I feel better!"

Using a combination of therapeutic techniques including CBT, DBT, and Narrative Therapy I take a person-centered approach to assist my clients.
I have spent the last three years working with various individuals who presented with primarily substance abuse issues. However, issues of depression, anxiety, sexuality, communication, and family dynamics were underneath the presenting problem as well. My clients all sought one thing: a different story than the one they had been currently starring in. Together we laid the groundwork to start changing that story. And together you and I can do the same.

I utilize aspects of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Narrative therapy, and mindfulness.
Through my career I have worked with a variety of individuals dealing with many different issues. I have worked with all ages and all stages of life. I have found that, regardless of life stage or difficulty a person is facing, meeting the person where they are is one of the most important aspects of therapy. I am passionate about creating an environment in which my clients feel comfortable being vulnerable so that they can best work towards their goals. The majority of my clinical experience has been working with children, adolescents, and young adults experiencing anxiety, depression, and trauma.

I utilize a blend of reality therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, person-centered therapy, narrative therapy, feminist therapy, and many others to ensure that whatever you've got going on, we can tackle it.
My proverbial "couch" is open to everyone, with a specialized focus on LGBTQ+ and BIPOC populations. Life can be tough. You don't have to go through it alone. If you're feeling overwhelmed or overburdened with life circumstances, relationship issues, or symptoms of mental illness, help is available. I'm ready to listen, learn about you and the difficulties you're facing, and walk beside you as we figure this thing out together. Regardless of what you bring to the counseling space, you will always have a supportive ear; a warm, therapeutic relationship is key to the counseling process, and I'm excited to offer that to you.

Do you feel like you have to be “the bad guy” in order to get your child to listen or behave? Maybe you find it hard to connect with your child(ren) or even your spouse. Are they distant, always on their phones/laptops/tablets, or just want to be left alone? At this point does it feel like every person in your family - your child, spouse, parent(s), etc. - just might as well be speaking another language or live on another planet because you just are not understanding each other.

I want to know you, hear your story, and walk with you towards living the life that you deserve! I specialize in working with children, teens, and adults, seeking individual or family therapy. I work with clients facing a wide variety of issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and more!

Let's face it, life is hard. It is draining juggling school, career, relationships, family, pets, etc. You get so caught up in the day to day that you've put the health of your mind, body, and spirit on the backburner. You may be here because you are struggling to get over past hurts that you've never told a soul. You want better relationships but don't know how. Maybe you are able to treat others with extraordinary kindness but have difficulty thinking nice things about yourself. Perhaps, what feels like loss after loss has you feeling numb and detached and has left you struggling to know who you are and how to move forward.

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
