My goal is to help clients challenge this discourse and write their own narrative.
TELETHERAPY APPOINTMENTS AVAILABLE. My ideal client is willing to be introspective. They may present with a wide array of issues ranging from depression, anxiety, bi-polar, schizophrenia and adjustment and posttraumatic stress disorders, ADHD, substance and alcohol abuse, hoarding, LGBTQ+ related issues, sexual and physical trauma, relationship concerns and grief. Not only do my clients need validation and support, but they want to understand the function of their symptoms. My goal is to help clients make sense of their feelings and find ways to reduce their symptoms so that it does not interfere with their daily functioning.

My approach to counseling is to be fully present, attune, and resonate with my clients by co-regulating their nervous systems in a therapeutic setting. I am trained to identify and treat the root causes of emotional triggers and associated thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors. I believe mental wellness is characterized by calmness, clarity, curiosity, creativity, confidence, courage, compassion, and connectedness.

Living with anxiety/OCD/ADHD, feeling as if living "between two worlds" by virtue of all of your intersecting identities, and feeling confused about why your past haunts you (and why your most important relationships are suffering) can culminate in helplessness and despair. By creating a non-judgmental, open, and relational space for both reflection and exploration, I can meet you as you are and help you forge and narrate a path that fits. I help you better understand why you experience yourself and the world as you do and identify how you can be more present and move forward with tools, skills, and greater agency in your life.

Welcome to Three Hearts Therapy and Supervision Services. I provide supervision to LMSWs in MD and I provide individual therapy (English or Spanish). I have worked with children, adolescents and adults in a number of settings (schools, clinics, non profit agencies and teletherapy). Many of the clients I’ve seen, have worked through trauma, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, grief and loss as well as adjusting to other life transitions. My specialty is in adjustment disorders due to my passion in helping first and second generation Hispanic students navigate their college experiences/ life dilemmas due to engrained cultural norms.

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
