Ipseity, that is, the discovery of authentic selfhood and individuality, is the unique goal that illuminates each of my therapeutic relationships. My style is integrative, holistic and deeply collaborative. Moving within a Psychodynamic approach, I utilize Existential, Humanistic, Narrative, Cognitive Behavioral, Relational and Mindfulness techniques to support my clients as they journey towards a life of personal empowerment. Specifically, my clients and I establish an environment of mutual trust, set obtainable goals, and gradually restructure old patterns by shifting awareness into more rewarding modes of being.

My relational, psychodynamic, and narrative approach starts with providing you with a safe and emboldening space.
Feeling spread thin? Are your boundaries not set and respected? Intrusive, overwhelming thoughts won’t leave you alone? Stuck in a mental space vacuum where it’s hard to get yourself grounded and in control? Insecure in the way you present yourself in certain spaces? Find yourself reacting and regretting rather than mindfully responding? My curiosity drives my sessions to hear and understand your unique story in which you are the narrator, main character, and expert. I work with various clients, including children, teens, college students, those in midst of transitions, adults, and immigrants. Sessions in Korean are also available!

I work within the theoretical frameworks of CBT, CBT-E, DBT, relational/narrative therapy and ACT and blend evidenced based treatments with traditional talk therapy to customize treatment to meet your needs.
The initial phone call or email to a therapist can sometimes feel like a daunting first step, and I aim to greet you with warmth and compassion. I view therapy as a journey of self discovery and a safe place to explore the relationship you have with yourself and others. I look forward to walking you through the process of getting started and finding a treatment that works best for you. Some of my specialties include the treatment of binge-eating, bulimia, anorexia and other food and weight-related problems, as well as generalized anxiety and depression, difficulty with life transitions, low self esteem and general life stressors.

Drawing from various therapeutic modalities, such as acceptance and commitment therapy, narrative therapy, relational therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy, I hope to empower clients to discover their own strengths and develop effective coping strategies.
Respecting the uniqueness of each individual is at the core of my practice and I tailor my approach to meet your specific needs. I firmly believe that healing and growth occur within the context of a safe, authentic, and empathetic therapeutic relationship. I am currently completing my master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling at Rutgers University. I received my undergraduate psychology degree from Boston University, where I focused on women, gender, queer and sexuality studies, rendering me sensitive to the needs and issues affecting members of the LGBTQIA+ and other diverse communities.

I utilize a range of approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Narrative, Positive Psychology, Solution Focused, and Strength-Based modalities.
Therapy can teach how to handle life obstacles in a healing, healthy way. I understand it can be scary, daunting, and overwhelming to start this journey. It can be easy to isolate yourself, to shove down the pain, or think you can’t be helped. No matter what your struggle is, you don’t have to go through it alone. Areas of focus include anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship issues, OCD, addiction, grief and loss. As your therapist, I aim to help you feel heard, validated, and empowered.

I utilized a range of approaches including person-centered, solution-based, and narrative therapy.
Obstacles are sometimes inevitable in life, they can lead to various troubling emotions, such as stress, anger, sadness, fear, and confusion. But what is more important is how we handle these difficulties. Counseling is an effective and healthy way, it allows people to engage in emotional processing and help people better understand themselves and the communities around them. I offer bilingual English/Chinese counseling. I’m confident that as a counselor, I’m able to empathize with those clients who may experience issues associated with being from another country, and not speaking the same language as the mainstream culture.

Some of the theoretical perspectives that inform my work include attachment theory, relational approaches, liberation psychology, and narrative therapy.
I am passionate about supporting people on their journeys of self-exploration, empowerment, and healing. While this journey looks different for everyone, therapy provides us with a unique opportunity to learn more about ourselves: our identities, the people and places that have shaped us, and life experiences. I have deep respect for the courage it takes to show up for ourselves in this way and believe we can do so with curiosity and compassion.

I use a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solutions Focused Therapy, and Narrative Therapy.
There’s nothing I find more gratifying than helping my clients redefining purpose in their lives. While we are in a constant struggle with the expectations of others, we often lose sight of who we are ourselves. We negotiate, toil, and sacrifice—sometimes without even knowing why. That’s why as a counselor, I specialize in navigating conflict and transitions within careers, relationships, and self-esteem to help clients regain ownership and rediscover meaning in life.

It is in my belief that we are all intrinsically whole, deserving and worthy of love and meaningful connections. However, somewhere along the way we have incurred pain and hurtful experiences that have tainted our story and lens of how we see the world and ourselves. Sometimes the narrative runs so deep that we can’t stop the thoughts and feelings that flow continuously. In this way, everyday feels like a struggle. Perhaps you secretly feel lost and lonely or you struggle with feelings of anxiety, insecurity or sadness and are uncertain about how to navigate the complexity of your emotions. Wherever you are - your story matters.

Waitlist for new clients
These include: client-centered therapy, narrative therapy, internal family systems therapy, anti-racism, intersectionality, feminist & queer theories, and psychodynamic therapies.
Let’s say therapy works for you, what do you imagine will be different about your life? I always ask this question in our initial session, because therapy is about helping you get where you’re trying to go. My role is to provide a safe, non-judgmental space where curiosity is natural, compassion is the baseline, and exploration is key. To do this, I believe that a positive and strong relationship between therapist and client is essential. I typically work with clients who are navigating gender identity, life transitions, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and/or trauma—especially religious/spiritual trauma.

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
