I now only work online through Skype. I have worked with a variety of issues over my 30 years in my profession. I have been an Adjunct Instructor in the UN-O Graduate Counseling Department, Consultant to area psychiatric programs, Director of Outpatient programs, and a presenter to a wide range of businesses as well as my outpatient practice. I like the diversity of my practice in terms of diagnostic features rather than a particular specialty. My many years of practice have allowed me to work with such a wide range of circumstances and issues.

What does it mean to "take care of your mental health?" It's easier to tell when you aren't taking care of it: chronic stress, exhaustion, worry, and panic are all signs your mental health is suffering. If untreated, you could start having nightmares, poor health, trouble in your relationships, and difficulty staying on top of work or school. There are many things that can lead to mental health struggles, like a too-busy schedule, a chronic illness or someone else's troubles, a major life transition, or a death of someone close to you. Or, it could seem to come out of the blue, caused by nothing at all.

I love the concept of developing "grit". Learning how to overcome the obstacles and emotions that stand in our way. Let me help you deal with the inevitable anxiety and frustrations we face and develop the skills that help you deal with them. Perseverance, flexibility and adaptability gets us farther than intelligence, skill and luck ever will or ever have. If you are sick and tired of being sick and tired...I can help. Some days we need a cheerleader with pom poms; some days, we may need a "kick in the butt" or a nudge. All days we want to feel understood, accepted and validated. I am known as being both direct and kind.

As the parent of a child/teen that struggles with their wounded selves, you have tried everything. The exhaustive interventions that you have tried are going nowhere fast. Throwing in the towel is all that you have left. Your marriage is more daunting than it is invigorating and you keep hitting a wall with connecting to one another. Depression has you stuck in quicksand and the struggle is consuming you. Anxiety has its grip on you and it is controlling your life. You find yourself asking what more can you do? You feel all alone in your struggles and are having more moments of frustration than joy. Asking for help is hard.

Life is continuously presenting us with new challenges, often causing us to question our decisions or how we will manage such obstacles. This uncertainty can lead to complicated emotions that may seem too overwhelming to manage alone. Genuine support and guidance, as well as a safe, non-biased environment may be the answer to overcoming these battles and gaining a sense of peace.

Finding the right therapist is perhaps the most important part of the therapy process. You want someone you can feel comfortable sharing your thoughts and feelings without judgment. You want to know that your therapist has your best interests in mind always, and sees things objectively. You want someone who has advanced training, experience, skill and offers sound encouragement. You want someone who would practice what is recommended and feels called to walk along side you during some of life's most difficult moments. If this is where you are beginning, consider starting here.

I love empowering both men and women. There's no greater feeling than owning your hardships, rather than your hardships owning you. If you've been struggling to navigate the challenging paths of trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, or life complexities, you deserve support tailored to your experience. I also enjoy working with challenging personalities, and with my 12 years in the military, I have a unique perspective in many areas.

What type of therapy is best for narcissistic personality disorder?

Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is best treated with talk therapy, which could involve cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, schema therapy, gestalt therapy, or similar approaches. A therapist will help a patient uncover the feelings that may drive their behavior and discover how to engage with themselves and those around them with greater empathy and understanding, fewer demands, and less defensiveness, with the goal of developing a more authentic sense of self that enables healthier relationships.

How do therapists treat NPD?

By developing a strong therapeutic relationship, and continually focusing patients on relationships, community, and connection, a therapist, through talk therapy, may be able to help someone with NPD change. In sessions, a therapist will help an individual achieve relief from their current stressors, including the treatment of co-occurring conditions such as anxiety or depression. A therapist may also help an individual to recognize unhealthy coping mechanisms, learn new ways of interacting with others, and eventually become able to feel and display empathy.

Can a narcissist be cured with therapy?

Therapy can be effective. After a serious setback or great loss, someone with NPD may be forced to recognize that they are not immune to life’s challenges. That can spur feelings of melancholy and depression that lead them to seek professional help. Once an individual decides to seek help, they have already taken a step that the majority of those with NPD never will. Still, people with NPD often quit therapy as they naturally resist feeling vulnerable, being challenged, or admitting to flaws.

How can you get narcissistic personality disorder treatment for someone?

It is notoriously difficult to convince someone with NPD to seek help. With their feelings of superiority, they may be unlikely to recognize or acknowledge that they have a problem, or that their problem is narcissism. Sometimes, they are aware that they are arrogant and that others resent them but they don’t see it as a problem because they are convinced of their superiority. People with NPD have trouble maintaining relationships, but family members and others who do feel close to them, and whose presence they value, may be able to encourage them to seek therapy.
