I have been trained as a clinical social worker, addictions counselor, and Certified Sex Addiction Therapist. I utilize experiential therapies and EMDR to help people reclaim their lives. In my practice I focus on helping adults struggling with developmental trauma and PTSD, sex and pornography addiction, recovery from narcissistic abuse & traumatic bonding, and drug/alcohol addiction. Parents of addicted adults and folks with internet/gaming/screen addictions are also specialty areas.

I have been in private practice for 20 years & clinical practice for 33 years. My clients are individuals, couples and older teens seeking personal growth from issues stemming from trauma, sex addiction and substance abuse. Those I treat are often also dealing with depression and anxiety, and I have extensive experience with law enforcement and PTSD and those healing from childhood trauma as well. I am level I certified in EMDR and incorporate multiple modalities into my work. I have considerable experience with those dealing with personality disorders within their family dynamics and relationships. Couples are a specialty.

Theresa is a Licensed Professional Art Therapist, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, and an approved LPAT/LPCC supervisor. She received her Masters of Education with a concentration in Art Therapy and Counseling from the University of Louisville in 2006 and a Bachelors of Fine Arts, Cum Laude, from the University of Louisville in 2002. She has over 15 years of experience working in the mental health field. She is one of the co-founders of Louisville Expressive Therapies.

For over 15 years, I have helped clients improve their most important relationships. I have found that when we experience conflict, communication challenges, a lack of emotional/physical intimacy, or have unmet needs, we can struggle to feel complete. Whether I am working with an individual client, a couple, or an entire family system, I can support you in strengthening your intimate relationships. I specialize in maternal mental health (infertility, pregnancy, and postpartum), premarital and marital counseling, parent-child interactions, and extended family (in-laws, siblings, and family of origin) dynamics.

I specialize in the treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and extreme OCD. I also work with trauma and other mood disorders. I am open and honest with my clients about my own personal mental health struggles as I too have BPD and other mental health conditions. I use self-disclosure to help validate clients’ experiences and also dispel some of the mystique one may feel about me as a clinician. We are all equal in terms of needing help to overcome mental health challenges.

I have many years of experience working with early childhood trauma and severe, persistent mental illness, varying from ages of 5 years to 70+. I work through an Existential foundation, to help those I work with seek meaning and purpose, with skills built from experience with Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and Cognitive Behavior Therapy, all within the context of a trauma-informed approach.
