At Perseverance Counseling our slogan is "championing your ability to hurdle life's obstacles". For over fifteen years, I have provided counseling services to adolescents, teenagers and adults. I have worked with individuals in correctional, community, school and hospital settings. Also, I have provided counseling to families transitioning from homelessness to stable housing.

My name is Dr. Alexander Kohl and I have over ten years experience working with a wide variety of mental health concerns. I received my PhD in clinical psychology with a specialization in neuropsychology. I strive to create a warm and welcoming environment so my clients feel safe and heard while discussing difficult issues. I believe in treating the whole individual, not just their symptoms, and will work with you to determine realistic and achievable goals. One of the most important aspects about therapy is that you find a therapist that you feel comfortable with and can trust. I hope I can help you along this process!

I believe counseling is my calling in life because I've had mentors and coaches that have impacted my life for the better. But more importantly, I've also experienced some challenging failures. I've taught and counseled hundreds of individuals and empowered them to grow into the best versions of themselves. Dr. Smith provides both individual and Family/Couple Counseling services, as well as family-based interventions. Common reasons for seeking therapy include difficulty adjusting to life changes and transitions, coping with traumatic life experiences, and difficulty managing feelings, such as depression, stress, anxiety and anger. Other common issues include dissatisfaction in significant relationships, parenting challenges, and issues related to body image and unhealthy eating patterns. Dr. Smith focuses on increasing a client's self-awareness and assists them in establishing new ways to cope with their difficulties that are consistent with the client's personal values and beliefs.

All of us have had many transitions throughout our lifetime. These transitions can be experienced as positive, neutral or negative. Terry Samuels earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice in December 1994 from Armstrong Atlantic University. Terry obtained his Master of Public Administration degree in December 1996 from Georgia State University. Terry obtained his Master of Professional Counseling degree in December 2015 from Grand Canyon University. Terry completed a 10-month internship at Intown Psychological Associates and completed the hours required for his associate license. Terry is a fully licensed therapist in the state of Georgia (LPC011391). Terry obtained his doctorate in psychology from Grand Canyon University in November of 2023.

Many of my clients, both individuals and couples, desire closer and more meaningful relationships. Relationship issues, whether with ourselves or with others, cause a variety of problems including depression and anxiety. I help my clients make sense of their relationship patterns and examine thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that may be obstacles to experiencing a fulfilling and exciting life. I work under the premise that the first step in dealing with emotional and relational problems is to become aware of what keeps us in their trap.

I believe it is imperative that as counselors we work diligently to help clients identify, accept, and work through their limiting ideas. I believe that my personal work and advanced education combine to create a down-to-earth and genuine, love-based approach that my clients benefit from.
