Finding a good therapist is really hard. And even if you find a good one there still might be personality issues or incompatibilities. To be honest, there's not a lot that can be done about this, compatibility issues are real and finding something that works is hard. What I can tell you is that I am a good therapist, I strike a balance between active listening, and giving coaching and clarification of issues when you're stuck spinning in your own head. I practice a non-judgmental approach which means I can call you out without introducing shame or guilt.

Rick is a Certified Alcohol Drug Counselor and Trauma-informed Clinician who takes an authentic approach with his clients. He is licensed in Indiana and Illinois and is currently accepting virtual clients. Rick is a yoga instructor and a veteran with years of trauma and addiction management experience. He is trained in ACT, DBT, EMDR, TF-CBT, IFS and Mindfulness. Rick has also completed Dr. Karyl McBride's WIEBGE therapist training and can be found on the WIEBGE therapist registry. this is geared for adult children of narcissistic parents.

I will often utilize journaling, narrative therapies, EMDR, grounding and somatic techniques, mindfulness, archetypes, meditation, art, and Internal Family Systems into our sessions.

The stress of recent world events may increase anxiety, depression, and PTSD. Big "T" traumas are life-threatening events that may be witnessed (bystanders) or experienced. Little "t" traumas include non-life-threatening injuries, emotional abuse, death of a pet, bullying or harassment, loss of significant relationships, just to name a few. All traumas have a significant emotional impact. Failing to address any trauma may result in anxiety, depression, and substance abuse, just to name a few. Living with painful memories can be devastating to the mind by creating chaotic thinking.

I believe it is imperative that we broaden our definition of "trauma." Trauma can be ANYTHING disruptive (in addition to assault, combat, death, etc.). An unhealthy relationship; a break-up; bullying; neglect; a stressful event or period of time are all traumatic. These disruptive experiences influence what we think about ourselves and our world; and they often guide our decisions and perspectives.
