Have the huge life changes induced by the Covid-19 pandemic brought you to the brink of despair? Many patients grapple with employment change or loss and a resulting lack of structure, identity and purpose in life. Others struggle with spending 24 hours a day with their partners and/or children and attempt to console themselves with substances. Older folks and ones with chronic and/or life-threatening disease experience increased isolation and helplessness. We've all lost some of our favorite coping mechanisms! Psychotherapy enables you to reveal a self you may have kept hidden and to cope and change in ways that you desire.
Although I have worked with patients with a broad range of psychological challenges, I concentrate on working with patients suffering due to uncontrollable events and situations, as well as with addiction. Examples: losing one's life work; becoming debilitated through aging or disease; losing one's life partner; suffering trauma such as rape.
I grew up in a working class family and am comfortable with people from all walks of life. I believe that the psychotherapeutic relationship is first of all a relationship between two human beings, and I work to achieve an authentic personal connection with all my patients. Traumas I have endured in my own life enhance my abilities as a psychologist.
