My area of specialization focuses on looking at current difficulties in relationships or in becoming yourself. We look through the lens of one's own attachment history in order to understand how those responses and feelings are brought into current relationships in non-productive ways or ways that sabotage one’s own growth. In the past I worked extensively with young children and their parents so I typically focus on the impact those early experiences have on current relationships and how they manifest in spite efforts to change.
My initial doctoral training began in child development and early childhood education, and I was on the faculty at the University of Houston in the Human Development Department for a number of years. After doing research on the transition to parent, I completed my doctorate in clinical psychology with a specialty in attachment theory.
