Accepting New Clients! Most of us need help at one time or another in our lives. Asking for help is not always easy. However, it is always important to realize our own limitations and allow ourselves to feel better. Therapy is for everyone, whether you’ve experienced trauma, want to learn skills to better your relationships, or regulate your own emotions and reactions. As your therapist, I will meet you exactly where you are without judgment. I will provide a safe and empathic place where you are able to explore and deepen your connection to yourself, as well as building and strengthening your connection with others.

Even the healthiest of individuals, couples, and families come across challenges that invite confusion, overwhelm and even despair. Getting support during difficult times can be helpful in encouraging yourself to move more confidently in a positive direction.

It is my desire to work with individuals and families to create lasting change in their lives. As one gains an understanding of their past, the experiences that have shaped them, and their responses to those situations, we can find a new path forward. We cannot move forward until we know where we have been on the journey of life. Through exploration, one can experience being known in a therapeutic context, thus learning the skills necessary to be known by those in our lives.

Chances are you're struggling to understand some area of your life, feeling stuck, hoping for new possibilities and outcomes. Maybe now is the time to reevaluate what you really want out of life and to make some changes. Perhaps the situation that has you most frustrated is providing you with an opportunity to look deep within yourself at the person you most fully want to be. I believe therapy is a partnership in which my responsibility is to provide you a safe, nonjudgmental and supportive space where you can bring whatever issues you wish to explore.

I truly love helping people discover just how precious and important they are to the world around them. I do not like to see people suffer. I know what that feels like. I believe that the client has, within himself or herself, the ability to find his or her way to wellness when they are given the right person to accompany them on that way. Moreover, I have discovered that when the client is given the opportunity to safely explore his or her self and how they relate to the world around them that they arrive at healthier understandings how they exist in their worlds. When they do, they gain agency and the capacity to heal.

Life gets hard for all of us at times and sometimes we just need help finding our way back to our true self. I love working with people and helping them find their own inner strength and establishing a loving relationship with themselves. This is what brings us back to understanding how precious and uniquely God made each of us. Out of this comes the return of joy and beginning of relationships with others in more healthy ways.

My ideal client would be someone who is motivated to make changes in their way of living to increase their quality of life. Maybe they have depression, anxiety, work issues, trouble building and maintaining healthy relationships, or struggle to manage their anger. They have recognized a need for change and are open to therapy. This client would be receptive to evidence based practices and willing to step of their comfort zone when it comes to looking into themselves and their history.

Drug Abuse Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
