Research shows that joy is the hardest human emotion to truly experience. Challenges with depression, anxiety, life transitions, trauma, low self-esteem, relationships or many other things, hold us back from fully experiencing these moments of joy in life. Whenever you may be at in your journey, your choice in seeking help is one of bravery. My goal is to partner with you to better understand your present circumstances, create meaningful goals and continue to provide support and hope to you along the way.

Let's get to work and get you where you want to be. I'm here to provide options, ideas, solutions, and the strategies to help get you there. I like to use the term "level up", as a description of honing the strengths and tools you already have. Together we can define and refine those skills you already have and also offer new approaches and mental tools that you can incorporate in your personal development journey. I use a combination of Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing in a strengths-based, solution focused format. Time to level up to your best self, you got this!

Does part or most of your life feel more difficult than you think it should. Are you having problems sleeping, gaining or losing weight, worrying too much or stressed most of the time. Do you have feelings of being stuck, sad, hopeless, guilt or shame? Do you have a porn addiction or sex problems. Are your relationships falling apart or are you fighting all the time and you don't know why? Do you have a hard time focusing/completing your work? You are not alone. Just like a cough is a symptom of a cold. These symptoms are your body and mind telling you there might be a problem. I can help with these and other issues.

I am here to guide, encourage and highlight what I see to help you come to clear solutions. My experience lies in working with individuals who are struggling with adjusting to life changes or balancing new roles/identities. Overall, I consider myself a "worldly nurturer". "Worldly", because I have worked with people from all backgrounds, cultures, ages, and walks of life to "nurture" their potential. All of my experiences have taught me the foundational skills that I use in my profession today, which are: patience, the ability to listen, the understanding that listening is as paramount as speaking, the capabilities to be resourceful, valuing modesty and humility whilst still being confident and capable, and having faith in my skill-set while still being open to professionally growing and developing.

Music Therapy

How does music therapy work?

A music therapist will begin by assessing the client’s specific needs and getting a sense of their musical ability and interests. Musical training is not required, and clients of all ages can benefit from this type of therapy. The therapist will then make a plan for how to achieve the client’s therapeutic goal(s) using a range of receptive (e.g., listening to a song) and active (e.g., drumming in a group) music therapy techniques.

What are some common music therapy techniques?

Music therapy usually involves listening to music (either live or recorded). Music therapy clients may also make music on popular instruments, such as the piano, guitar, and hand drum, or sing. Sometimes music therapy can include guided imagery. A music therapist may ask clients to improvise on the spot or even compose their own songs. Dancing or moving to music can be an effective intervention to help clients feel more fully grounded in their bodies and remain in the present moment.

How does music therapy help with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)?

Music therapy can be a valuable creative outlet for clients with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) who have trouble putting their painful feelings into words. Listening to music can be relaxing while making music as part of a group provides plenty of opportunities to connect with other people. In addition to its mood-boosting effects, music therapy can help clients build resilience and overcome PTSD symptoms that may interfere with their daily lives.

How long does music therapy take?

Music therapy sessions generally last between 30 and 50 minutes. They can be scheduled in advance (for example, once a week) or can be done on an as-needed basis. Some clients will only require a handful of music therapy sessions to achieve their goals, while others may need months or longer, depending on their specific concern.
