Being a counselor is a great privilege! I enjoy walking with people through some of the darkest times of their lives as they move forward to reaching their goals. The environment of the client-therapist relationship is unique and powerful. Within this context, growth is contagious. Since my arrival in this area in 1979, I have worn many hats. Having been a military wife, mom, Critical Care Nurse, and Licensed Mental Health Counselor has given me a broad experience base and knowledge in helping a diverse population. I work with couples and families, both military and civilian, children and adolescents, and the elderly. I often focus on life adjustment issues such as family separation, communication breakdowns, chronic and acute illness, and grief and loss.Although I am a Christian, I honor all faiths and am quite comfortable with spirituality as a frame of reference in therapy.

I help clients battling mixed emotions: anxiety, depression, worries, fear, and trauma. They have excessive/some worry that is difficult to control, occurring more days than not for more than 30 days and beyond. They might also experience motor tension, autonomic hyperactivity, and hypervigilance. I work with you to create short- and long-term goals to reduce symptoms' frequency, intensity, and duration so that daily functioning is not impaired. The plan is to stabilize anxiety levels while increasing the ability to function. Help resolve the core conflict causing the anxiety. Enhance ability to cope with daily and life stressors.

My focus is on Depression, Substance Abuse/Recovery, Anxiety, Personality Disorders, Trauma, Experiential Therapy, Relationships, LGBTQ, Co-Dependency, Anger, and PTSD. My counseling approach is eclectic and individualized to meet each client's needs because although we are all connected we certainly are all not alike. I am always supportive but I also believe in challenging my clients when appropriate. In the past, I have specialized in working with adults with dual diagnoses, families and couples, exceptional students in the public school setting, and even forensic treatment.

The purpose of therapy is to take what you have learned and apply it outside. It is not always easy to make changes, and change can be scary, but once you put your words into action, the change can be beautiful. I have worked with people who struggle with substance use issues, depression, anxiety, and families. I have a passion for working with people in the BiPOC community. I want my clients to believe in themselves and what they can accomplish without needing external validation. My goal is for you to feel confident in your decision-making to process your needs/issues without relying on others.
