Relationships are central in my life and shape the way I move through the world. I care deeply about meaningful connection and honoring the ways we impact one another. I have a sensitive, intuitive nature and pay close attention to what’s said and what isn’t. I believe healing happens in real relationship, met exactly where you are, without pressure to have it all figured out. I value wild places. Nature, movement, creativity, and community help remind me that growth doesn’t have to be rushed or perfect. Through curiosity, collaboration, and empowerment, I support clients in creating meaningful life and behavioral change.

Founded by Psychologist, Dr. Tim Berry in 1995, The Center For Positive Change operates from the perspective that psychotherapy is an active process resulting in clarity and change. It can help you identify ineffective patterns of thinking and behavior, which may create: stress, emotional problems, stress related medical problems, addiction problems, and/or relationship problems. Although the work can be difficult, it is profoundly rewarding and life changing.

I am taking new clients after April 15, 2024. I work with anorexia, bulimia, and other eating problems. Many eating problems were initiated by dieting and became an illness when the body's evolutionary defenses against starvation fought back leading to anorexia, bulimia, or binge eating disorder. Our fat-phobic culture preaches limitless perfectibility and a duplicitous diet industry claims that permanent loss is possible and healthy.

Psychotherapy is not about a healer and a patient. Therapy is a human-to-human encounter where we build safety, radical acceptance, courageous self-assessment, and mutual humility. Together we build the strength, skills, courage and insight needed to reckon with all the turbulence that brought you to this moment, this meeting. I have certain skills, tools-for-exploration-and-healing, and ongoing specialized training. We hold space together to re-experience/speak/honor our suffering, and then use what we discover to grow your capacity for compassion, release, equanimity and joyful living.

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
