Female Therapists in Rose Park, Missoula, MT
Every one of us is unique and with that knowledge, I practice from an individualized and holistic point of view. I am also a trained herbalist and have seen clients in that capacity since 2019. I believe my training in that realm allows for a more enriched and informed view of healing and recovery. My ideal client is someone who knows they deserve better and knows the potential is there, but they are just stuck in a patten of addictive cycles. They are open to sharing, willing to put in the work and try new things. I look at your diet, lifestyle, life experiences, family history and more to create a personalized plan.

My favorite approach to therapy utilizes Attachment Theory. My practice has been weighted toward older adolescents and adults experiencing problems in living through trauma, addictions, suicidal ideation, relational problems, adjustment disorders, and mood and anxiety disorders. I also work with parents of young children. I have trained in Circle of Security, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, Trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, and I'm well versed in Missoula's systems of social welfare.

Ever think: "How did I end up here?" or "I never imagined {life event} would happen to me!" You are not alone! We can all relate to these sentiments. Most people do not end up in therapy because circumstances are unicorns and rainbows. Are you struggling with loss, or making meaning out of events that have left you feeling uncertain, shaken, in agony? Do you feel like you are starring in a scene from the film Ground Hog Day, where life is a series of frustrating, repeating events? You can make a successful transition to break this cycle, whatever that personal change is. You will get a sense of control back. A little Zen. Some hope.

Have you experienced adverse life events that have impacted your ability to move forward? Most people experience distress in their lifetime. This distress can often be overwhelming, trigger dysfunction, and impair relationships. When humans are psychologically wounded, we need empathetic, compassionate, and genuine healing. My practice works with survivors of traumatic experiences or adversity. I am also passionate about providing trauma informed care to first responders, law enforcement, medical professionals, mental health professionals, and military members and their families.

I would be honored to get to know your child and offer behavioral, emotional, and developmental support through therapeutic play. Children can often show a need for extra support in their development. They may be struggling to express emotions, connect with family or peers, or regulate and soothe themselves through change, traumatic events, or life transitions. I help children connect to resources in themselves and offer a space to work through emotions they don't have words to describe. I also work with families to support the child-adult relationship at home.

This biology based approach sees you as someone worthy of support, yearning for wellness and capable of improvement, no matter your diagnosis. Skill building, trauma reprocessing, attachment focused support, education, parenting support and mindfulness are among the approaches we may use.

We are wired to need connection with others from our earliest years, yet our closest relationships can become strained due to life's difficulties. I believe we can find relief from these problems by discovering our strengths, learning about our core needs and how those impact our emotions, and improving our interactional patterns with those we are in relationships with.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
