Often times in life we are faced with difficulties, trauma, and life transitions that can be painful, overwhelming, confusing, and frightening. During these times, we can also feel depressed , angry, anxious, and struggle with day to day life. We may find that we are triggered by stress, conflict, and old wounds may reopen and even deepen. Reliving intrusive and painful memories may cause us to distance ourselves from others. Further, it can be agonizing trying to navigate through these difficulties and times. We may feel alone or that we have no one to talk to that we can trust. We may find that our normal supports are not enough.

Therapeutic issues I commonly work with are trauma recovery (EMDR), anxiety, depression , grief and loss, self-esteem building, life changes, problematic relationships, and meaning-making.
My approach is empathic, direct, and thoughtful. Given I have a wide background in my training and experience, I adapt my therapeutic approach to your needs. I find that effective therapy is a collaborative approach where we work together to understand your concerns, their origins, and most importantly what can be done to bring about both the internal and behavioral changes that lead to more satisfaction and fulfillment in life . My goal in therapy is to help integrate your shame and vulnerabilities into a healthy identity grounded in self-esteem, pride, and resiliency.

Thank you for being here! Therapy can be a fantastic resource to any and everyone, and taking the first step is often quite challenging. If you are feeling depressed , anxious, or overwhelmed, if your relationships (intimate, familial, and peer) are struggling, or if you are seeking to gain a deeper understanding of self, therapy is a great place to start. Gaining understanding and perspective can help you enhance your quality of life and identify if changes need to be made in order reach the goals you have.

My specialties are trauma recovery, depression , grief counseling, coping with illness and anxiety disorders.
My approach is founded on building a strong client/therapist relationship and looking at all facets of one's life to discover opportunities for healing and growth. Particular focus is placed on identifying the false narratives that contribute to suffering and get in the way of our happiness and wellbeing. Mindfulness work, EFT, CBT and especially EMDR can be powerful tools in identifying these narratives and bringing about positive change.

Does your heart hurt? Have you lost a loved one to death or divorce and your mourning feels unbearable? Grief and loss also comes from relocating, breaking up with a significant other, fired from a job, a broken friendship, a pet dying, abusive childhood, or substance abuse. Grief can feel heavy and numbing. You may feel anxiety, anger, depression and are isolating. Self-medicating through alcohol and drugs is common, too. Negative emotions are balled up and difficult to untangle alone. Do you want to move through the journey of grief into a place where it feels "more normal"?

Therapy is a cooperative journey forward. Therapy is a process of knowing ourselves in full honesty and understanding our connection with self and others. Trauma, depression and anxiety are common and none of us are immune. All of us have the potential to become strong in the spots where we feel weak, or as Hemingway put it, "The world breaks everyone, and afterword, many are strong in the broken places". The body and mind seek to heal, mend, and find balance. This is a natural process that needs cultivation to be brought to fruition.

Depression Therapists
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
