Play therapy builds on the natural way that children learn about themselves and their relationships in the world around them, while allowing them an opportunity to consider the way they think about, feel toward, and resolve their concerns.

Are you or your child, experiencing symptoms of anxiety, panic, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), tics or struggling with a phobia? Perhaps you're having a difficult time sleeping or find yourself worrying about bad things happening or what people think of you? You could be experiencing unwanted thoughts that you are unable to let go of, or fear losing control and something bad happening. You may be struggling to move past something difficult that happened and it’s taking away from your quality of life. Living with anxiety can be crippling, but with evidenced based treatment, symptoms can improve fairly quickly.

Psychotherapy can be hard. At times, therapy can involve discussing aspects of your history that can feel uncomfortable. Sometimes this process can induce temporary feelings like grief, anger, or anxiety. My goal for our therapeutic relationship is to stay engaged in understanding and moving through your "stuff" in order for you to have good problem solving and good relationships. Your progress through these issues is not a race. We will work together to find the most effective way to improve the quality of your life with the least amount of disruption and distress.

I believe that everyone has the capacity to heal. Healing brings us closer to a sense of wholeness in our lives, which leads to authenticity, close and connected relationships, meaning and purpose, and connection to nature and spirit. However, experiences from the past or current challenges or stressors can leave people feeling overwhelmed. Through counseling, an individual can explore their experiences, process their emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations in the present moment, which will guide them toward increased awareness, emotional regulation, greater capacity and a sense of well-being and vitality.

NO CURRENT OPENINGS "If you never heal from what hurt you, you will bleed on people who didn't cut you." Mental health is just as important as physical health and yet we find often ourselves lacking in self care and emotional attention. Maybe you find yourself lashing out at loved ones, or having difficulties communicating effectively within relationships. Maybe you have inner doubts or shame that you have never been able to share in a safe and supportive setting. Maybe you are sick of constantly feeling depressed or anxious with no apparent cause and with minimal hope of change.

I specialize in trauma processing, parent coaching, relationship building with teens (even really tough teens!), helping young adults navigate finding themselves, and supporting women through pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum.
I specialize in working with teenagers, young adults, parents of little ones, and expecting/new moms. I have six years experience working in a group home with youth with significant trauma and am trained in both TF-CBT and EMDR. I have extensive knowledge on pregnancy and postpartum care as well as early parenting (and am in the thick of it myself!). I am in the process of becoming a certified Qigong instructor and believe we heal by helping our bodies feel safe first. I am honored to provide a safe and nurturing space as we walk this path of healing and wholeness together!

Part of being human means that most of us will inevitably struggle at some point in our lives. It is common to seek support and guidance to help navigate through difficult times. Finding a therapist who feels like "the right fit" can be challenging, as it is important to find someone you trust and who is knowledgeable about what has prompted you to seek help. My treatment approach is grounded in compassionately understanding client's unique life history and experiences. I highly value authenticity and flexibility; and my goal is to build a collaborative relationship so that we can tailor therapy to address your needs.

Immediate Openings Available - Through thick and thin the longest relationship you will have is with yourself, yet so often we give so much to others and forget to give to ourselves. We may not realize this until life piles up and feels hard to carry on our own. If you're feeling overwhelmed, stressed, confused, or like it's time to put yourself first, now is the time. Therapy can be a place to deeper understand your experiences, foster your relationship with yourself, and heal. Together we can identify what you're experiencing, process historical and current contexts, and move through it to a place of healing.

I want to bring hope to whatever situation you are facing. As we work together in individual or couples counseling, I will help facilitate healing, growth, and self-compassion. You may be stressed beyond your limits at home and/or work with our new world realities due to COVID-19. Maybe you are dealing with past or current trauma, or struggling in your relationships. You may find yourself facing grief and loss during this time as our losses have increased due to stay-at-home orders and new ways of living. Many are struggling with anxiety, depression, hopelessness, and feelings of loneliness as a result.

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
