I enjoy working with couples, individuals, and adolescents – I am honored to walk with my clients as they seek to understand the various aspects of themselves and their lives which cause distress. I utilize various counseling modalities in order to create a safe, welcoming, and healing environment within which my clients have the space to grow, learn more about themselves, and work towards the completion of their goals. I have experience in both a clinical setting as well as jail ministry where I lead counseling groups for women trustees.

Life can be overwhelming. We face transitions that are difficult and uncertain. We can feel we do not matter and are not needed at times. We yearn for someone to hear us and see us. The moments in your life that seem hard to cope with can become more manageable with the help of a team. Counselors are there to help when life seems like a heavy burden. They can walk alongside you as you experience transitions and face challenges. Serving in my community as a work colleague, school volunteer, and civic organizer for over twenty-five years, I am prepared to help others through the experiences I have faced.

You’re stressed and filled with anxiety. Your thoughts are negative and you lack self-confidence. Intrusive thoughts keep distracting you from what you need to do each day. You worry too much - maybe you've even become worried about how much you worry. Do you want to learn to lower the volume of the anxiety? Do you hope to gain some perspective about all the worries keeping you awake at night? Have you tried to manage emotions by stuffing them deep inside? Or maybe your emotions are all over the place and you aren't sure what you are feeling.

It is my desire to work with individuals and families to create lasting change in their lives. As one gains an understanding of their past, the experiences that have shaped them, and their responses to those situations, we can find a new path forward. We cannot move forward until we know where we have been on the journey of life. Through exploration, one can experience being known in a therapeutic context, thus learning the skills necessary to be known by those in our lives.

Living life on this side of Heaven means enduring hardship and suffering. I believe that the therapeutic process is one that can bring great healing as we all walk through our own life's valleys. As a therapist, I utilize an integrative approach that combines my Christian beliefs with researched-based counseling practices. I strive to create a safe environment for clients that places a high emphasis on the therapeutic relationship and the client's own worth as an image-bearer of Christ.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
