Many people have had challenges that often require the assistance of another person. My passion as a mental health therapist is rooted in personal experience. Even with over 10 years of experience in the counseling field, I do not consider myself an expert. My clientele and I will learn together during the counseling process. This setting is the perfect opportunity for a partnership where the client and the counselor can develop new skills, display growth, and make steps toward transformation.

Accepting clients located in Tennessee, North Carolina, Mississippi, and Minnesota. I feel honored to work with clients and to hear the experiences that bring them into therapy. Those with whom I work will most often hear me say “You are the expert of you;” I say this out of my aim to work collaboratively and to help them remain empowered during their journey to healing. I love aiding clients in healing past relationships and traumas, owning their identities, and feeling empowered to live in a place of power, connection, and authenticity.

I have a passion to teach individuals how to walk in their truth! In the process, I guide and encourage that cultivation through my compassion and multifaceted skill set. I have spent many years working with individuals and their families with addressing a multitude of concerns that led to problematic behavior that created functional dysfunction. My primary goal is to assist with them having awareness, acceptance , and then taking action with making what was once uncomfortable, comfortable; which is where the truth and the living begins.

I encourage individuals of all races, sexual orientations, religions, genders, and otherwise to know that I will treat them with the acceptance and respect that they deserve.
Although I consider myself able to help in addressing a number of presenting problems, I feel that my strengths lie in teaching practical coping skills for stress, anxiety, and depression. Adjusting to new circumstances in life can be difficult and I feel that I excel in building a sense of self-efficacy in my clients by focusing on their strengths and identifying needed changes.

Suffering is a part of life and speaks to our humanness. Through life's journey we may find ourselves stuck, feeling a lack of enthusiasm and meaning. We have been told that there are those born with the ability to overcome obstacles and defeat their fears. While this may be true, this ability can also be learned. I want to help you learn to overcome your obstacles and empower you to live a life that is driven by your ability to overcome challenges and stuck points. Instead of standing outside of your story feeling worthless, own it! (Brene' Brown) Start living a life fulfilling to you unapologetically.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
