My ideal client is someone who feels the weight of life pressing in on them—maybe they are navigating anxiety, depression, anger, grief, or the overwhelming pressure of daily responsibilities. They may struggle with understanding their emotions, feel disconnected from themselves or others, or find it difficult to express what they truly feel. Deep down, they want relief, clarity, and a sense of stability. They want to feel heard without judgment, supported without condition, and guided without feeling powerless. Ultimately, they want to regain control of their lives and feel more like themselves again.

I only take self-paying, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, and Cigna at private practice Journey to Hope Counseling.
Reaching out for therapy can feel overwhelming, especially if you’ve spent a long time being strong for others or holding things together on your own. You may be feeling emotionally drained, stuck in the same patterns, or unsure how to move forward—but still hopeful that things can be different.

Being a therapist motivates and give me purpose. Everyone experience life changes, but not everyone is prepared to manage the emotional, physical, social or financial changes that come with life changes. I understand people are wired differently, and because of that, therapy should never be a one-size-fits-all experience. Every person brings a unique story, perspective, and set of life experiences into the counseling process, and those differences deserve to be honored and understood.

Many of us live our lives balancing one life event after another. All is well until that ONE MORE THING happens! Some people lash out on others or suddenly experience an overwhelming flood of emotions. Others lose interest in activities or have a change in their sleeping or eating habits. Coping with stress, relationship issues, and other life events may cause depression, anxiety, or other emotional responses. Many of my clients have been able to find better ways to cope with their "series of unfortunate events." Empowering clients to find positive strategies to COUNT IT ALL JOY again is at the heart of what I do.

Could your Child Benefit from Play Therapy? Children are not tiny adults. Nervousness, frustration, and anxiety feel strange and scary to a small person who has very little experience dealing with big feelings. Play therapy is a treatment that helps children who are experiencing social, emotional, behavioral, and relationship disorders to express their emotions, improve their communication abilities, and learn to solve problems. This kind of therapy respects a child’s unique developmental level and looks for ways of helping by observing and interacting with how they play, which is the natural expressive “language” of children.

I believe that we are all image-bearers of God, as having been created in His image. Therefore, the client and I both bring resources into the therapy room with which to work collaboratively toward a healthier life for the client-- mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Beyond my training in Marriage and Family Therapy, I have experience that I bring to the table from my own life journey-- parenting into adulthood; divorce recovery; partner betrayal trauma, spiritual formation; marriage and relationships; career counseling; codependency issues; and addictions. My greatest core belief is that there is always hope!

I am in network with most major health plans, including BCBS, Anthem BC, Aetna, Cigna & UHC.
As a clinical social worker, I believe in our ability to make positive change happen in our own lives. I believe going to therapy is one way to do that. Therapy can be the catalyst for making a change in your life or it can be a soft place to land when an unexpected change has happened. Most often clients come to me for therapy with everyday life stressors, such as increased stress at work, school, or home. I often work with clients on developing healthier coping skills, setting stronger boundaries and learning to treat themselves with kindness. My approach leans heavily on CBT concepts, but I tailor my work to the individual.

Life can feel overwhelming at times, especially when you’re navigating relationships, major transitions, or trying to figure out your next steps. You may feel stuck, unsure, or emotionally drained, even though you’re doing your best to hold everything together. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone, and you don’t have to figure it out by yourself. I work with individuals, couples, and families who are seeking clarity, balance, and real change.

I recognize that making the decision to contact a therapist is difficult for some therefore, my goal is to make the process as comfortable as possible. I work in a relaxed, informal manner that is collaborative in nature. I often use humor in my therapy sessions and take every possible measure to ensure that my office is a safe place for clients to freely cry or express anger as they need. Finally, I work from an integrative perspective that draws from a variety of theoretical approaches as I tailor my approach to the needs and preferences of my clients.

Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?
In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.

How much does therapy cost with insurance?
The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.

What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?
An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.

Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?
It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.

What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?
HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.

What is a Superbill?
A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.

Does insurance cover Online therapy?
Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.

Does insurance cover Group therapy?
Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.

Does insurance cover Couples therapy?
Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer benefit plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy. Learn more about Insurance Coverage and Finding Affordable Therapy
