Throughout my life, I have observed and developed a deep appreciation of human nature - including the struggle we face to maintain uniqueness in a society that bombards us with unrealistic expectations of who we “should” be. Do you find yourself trying to fit into the mold of what you perceive other people (romantic partners, friends, family, employers) expect of you? In our attempt to maintain connections and avoid feelings of rejection, we avoid letting people know who we truly are. We will put on any mask that secures the illusion of being loved or accepted - all the while rejecting and losing connection with our true selves.

Sometimes all we need is a safe place to unpack what is on our heart and mind without judgment. I believe that life throws us loops and when we reach out for help, that shows how strong we truly are.

Life is full of unexpected twists and turns that can sometimes lead to feelings of significant stress, uncertainty and even fear. None of us are exempt from difficult and challenging situations, although we each often experience them in unique and meaningful ways. Maybe you feel paralyzed by the anxiety exacerbated by an overwhelming job or the discontentment with a romantic relationship that has grown stagnant and void of a true emotional connection. Deep down, you know that there has to be more to your life than what you are currently experiencing, and you are ready to take that next step towards "your greater".

I work with many different types of clients, including children, families and adults. Over the past 20 years, I have treated many different diagnoses and mental health challenges. I enjoy helping people overcome the effects of depression, panic attacks, trauma, bipolar, relationship and life changes, and the effects of grief. I approach everyone as an individual and we design your goals together. My aspiration is to help you lessen your burdens by giving you insights, coping skills, and a place to feel safe and heard. While our problems can feel overwhelming, there are often solutions that we do not see. Therapy can help.

An ideal therapy client is deeply motivated to enhance their life, regardless of the obstacles they face, be it trauma, addiction, parenting, anger, or self-esteem issues. What defines them is their proactive approach towards positive change. They are eager to explore healthier coping mechanisms and navigate life's challenges with resilience. They view therapy as a courageous step towards personal growth, understanding that seeking help is a sign of strength rather than weakness. Age, race, gender, and faith hold no bearing on their journey; what matters is their readiness to embrace the process of self-discovery and transformation.

I am trained to help people solve and adapt to the many problems that can emerge in life, either from circumstances, events, people, emotions, or even medical issues. I truly enjoy supporting others through difficult times or life transitions! Sometimes nothing is really wrong in life, but people struggle to reach their personal growth goals. This is an area I also am trained in. I treat depression, low motivation, mood swings, anger, anxiety, panic attacks, and traumatic exposures. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which helps empower you to overcome challenges and also gives you coping skills that last a lifetime.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
