I have a holistic approach that incorporates cognitive behavior therapy, dialectical behavior therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy.
Are you an adult who experienced hurt in your childhood? Have you been wrestling with that hurt all this time? Are you wrestling with it right this very second? And maybe for reasons you can't explain it's still affecting your life now. Your doing everything you can but the hurt just won't go away. Neither will the stress, anxiety and feeling disconnected. What you’re going through isn’t your fault. You didn't choose how you're feeling right now. But you can take steps to support the healing you're looking for. Therapy is one of those steps.

I work with preteens (12+), teens, emerging adults, and adults, providing trauma-informed care to individuals navigating life’s challenges, transitions, and emotional stressors. My clinical perspective is rooted in the understanding that past experiences, particularly trauma, shape how individuals relate to themselves, others, and the world, and that healing begins in a space that is safe, attuned, and nonjudgmental. My therapeutic approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy within a person-centered and trauma-informed framework. I collaborate closely with clients to increase insight and develop positive coping strategies.

My goal is to provide a client-centered approach using a variety of techniques from different modalities (such as Internal Family Systems, Polyvagal Theory, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Exposure Response Prevention, and EMDR) so that one can feel less alone, more empowered, and ultimately healthier and happier.
I have many years of experience working in the therapy environment, first as a speech language pathologist and then as a mental health counselor. Perhaps more significant than my training and experience has been my own personal journey dealing with obsessive compulsive disorder since the age of 11. The common factor through all these experiences, both personal and professional, is the need to be heard, valued, and respected. Feeling isolated and alone, no matter what the struggle may be, is a burden I understand.

What happened? You've been through something, something painful. Yesterday, last week, or years ago - it doesn't matter. You're having trouble now, and it's time to talk it through. You're down and not motivated. You're not sleeping well and wake up in a panic. You're thinking about the same things over and over without solving anything. You're doing the same things over and over again with the same unsatisfactory results. We've all been there - I have. I know how helpful therapy can be.

Who is DBT for?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
