Depression, Anxiety, Adjustment Issues, Family and Relationship Issues, Peer Conflict, Anger and Substance Abuse are some of the common issues I’ve addressed in session with clients.
My theoretical approach to counseling stems from Cognitive Behavior Therapy. I enjoy assisting clients with challenging negative or irrational thoughts that hinder daily functioning. I also believe in Psycho Education teaching clients to explore helpful current data. It’s a pleasure to watch clients grow and gain awareness through the use of counseling.

Many of us live our lives balancing one life event after another. All is well until that ONE MORE THING happens! Some people lash out on others or suddenly experience an overwhelming flood of emotions. Others lose interest in activities or have a change in their sleeping or eating habits. Coping with stress, relationship issues, and other life events may cause depression, anxiety, or other emotional responses. Many of my clients have been able to find better ways to cope with their "series of unfortunate events." Empowering clients to find positive strategies to COUNT IT ALL JOY again is at the heart of what I do.

Being a therapist motivates and give me purpose. Everyone experience life changes, but not everyone is prepared to manage the emotional, physical, social or financial changes that come with life changes. Feelings emotionally overwhelmed can affect the ability to make rational decisions. The inability to make rational decisions disrupts connection with self, reality, family and friends. As a Licensed Clinical social worker I am licensed to diagnose and treat. You are not alone and should never feel you are. I practice in an outpatient setting. My passion is helping patients move from a place of despair to optimism.

Bethesda Counseling Service was created from the idea that individuals, couples, and marriages and families are not to maximize their potential. I believe that some individuals hinder themselves and their potential due to faulty misconceptions that they have acquired over the years. These faulty misconceptions appear to blind some individuals from seeing the solution to their problems. Sometimes, individuals need someone to help them to see their solution and aid them in maximizing their potential. I believe that you and I working together can help you to be that person, couple, marriage or family that you want to be.

Could your Child Benefit from Play Therapy? Children are not tiny adults. Nervousness, frustration, and anxiety feel strange and scary to a small person who has very little experience dealing with big feelings. Play therapy is a treatment that helps children who are experiencing social, emotional, behavioral, and relationship disorders to express their emotions, improve their communication abilities, and learn to solve problems. This kind of therapy respects a child’s unique developmental level and looks for ways of helping by observing and interacting with how they play, which is the natural expressive “language” of children.

Therapy can help when anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, or relationship concerns begin to feel overwhelming or all consuming. Many people seek therapy during life transitions, periods of emotional distress, or when the effects of past experiences begin to interfere with daily life, work, or relationships. I provide individual therapy for adults in north Mississippi, offering a supportive and thoughtful space to better understand patterns that contribute to emotional distress and to develop practical strategies that support meaningful, lasting change. Telehealth sessions are also available.

When past experiences shape negative beliefs about self worth and security, we develop reactive coping strategies-like avoidance, anger, or self-criticism-that keep us stuck.
You may feel stuck in patterns of anxiety, emotional overwhelm, or shutdown that don’t seem to make sense. You might function well on the outside, yet feel reactive, numb, disconnected, or exhausted internally. Relationships may feel hard to navigate, with cycles of closeness and distance, people-pleasing, or emotional withdrawal. You may have a history of trauma, chronic stress, or difficult family dynamics—or you may simply know that your body is always on edge. Even when you understand why you feel this way, your reactions don’t seem to change. That can leave you feeling frustrated, confused, or wondering what’s wrong with you.

How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
