Motoko Katayama
Marriage & Family Therapist Associate, MA, AMFT, CPA
I can help you accomplish your goals, create a joyful life, and obtain new skills in the shortest time possible, so that you will be able to graduate from therapy and become self-sufficient. For life transitions, clients can usually graduate from therapy within a few months. As for severe trauma and mental health issues, it may take some more time. I work well with clients seeking help with depression, anxiety, stress management, relationship issues, goal attainment, forgiveness, and enhancement of communication skills and self-esteem. Previously, I worked in tech as a CPA for 18 yrs+, so I can empathize with your struggles at work.
How therapy would look like: you can decide the focus of the session, set the pace, and ask for what you need from me (i.e., learning new skills, exploring different ways to look at a situation, guidance, etc). You are in charge of your life’s journey and you get to choose from several evidenced-based treatments that I present.
Effectiveness of therapy is determined by the quality of your relationship with your therapist, not the type of therapy or length of therapist’s experience, according to the latest meta-analytic research conducted by American Psychological Association. Please visit my website for more scientific information about how therapy works.

Professional Connections
I have been consulting with Motoko on a regular basis around a mutual client and have been consistently impressed with her warmth, compassion, and depth of insight. She has trained in EFT and is deepening in her skills and experience in working with couples. Another area of specialization for her is helping clients to move towards forgiveness. I highly recommend Motoko and can imagine that her clients are in excellent hands.
