Hi, my name is Sarah. One of the hardest and most scariest things a person can do is reach out for support. Rest assured, I am here to listen and I am here to support you. You may have questions and you may have doubts; however, I am here to let you know that it is normal in the process of reaching out. I want you to know that if you make the decision to reach out to me, I will let you take the wheel and be the decision maker for what you want to discuss or cover in counseling. You can take all the time you need to process, no matter how fast or slow, and I will be on the journey right alongside with you.

I work from a person-centered perspective while drawing from cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness techniques.
There have been many times in my life when I have needed a counselor. Whether it was to help in figuring out my next step in school, what track I needed to take in college, or even talking about my own personal struggles, counselors have played a role in my life and have helped me achieve many of my goals. I came to appreciate the role of a counselor and the hard work and dedication it takes to walk alongside clients and their journey. Therapy is hard work, and it is a task that many don’t want to face alone.

I follow a strengths-based model, including evidenced-based practices such as CBT and Motivational Interviewing.
Our time is valuable and it’s important to me that the client feels that value when ending each session. This is the client’s time to enter the space in a judgement-free, safe, and confidential setting. It’s a place to take a bit of a break from needing to be the one who has the answers in high-stress and intense scenarios. It’s also a space where to take the time - at your own pace - to process through trauma or any other stressors you may be facing. Life can be hard. But we can still find joy, fulfillment, and hope for the future. In order to get there, let’s first talk about it.

With a solution focused, holistic and integrative approach, I pull from multiple evidenced based practices and utilize components from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, emotion coaching, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, play therapy, sand tray therapy, art therapy and additional models.
Email is the easiest correspondence, I am often unable to answer phone calls. Are you having difficulty finding balance or meaning in your life? Are you feeling overwhelmed with life's day to day challenges? Are you struggling with your relationships or parenting? Are you suffering the effects of trauma, anxiety or depression? Does healing feel impossible? Sometimes, we might know something has to change, but not know where to start. While the counseling process can feel scary, you are not alone. My goal is to empower change by providing a safe, healing environment that supports self discovery and understanding.

Life is hard. We are all on a search for meaning and purpose. I work to create an open and comfortable place where clients can work through their struggles to better their lives and heal relationships. Therapy is challenging and I believe that growth is found in this challenge. The only goal is helping you move forward with fulfillment and joy. My personal worldview comes from following Jesus, but my goal is to be with you as you work through life whatever your background, faith, or life story is. My desire is to walk with people through hard times. We all go through them and sometimes we just need a hand.

Motivational Interviewing Therapists

How does motivational interviewing work?

Motivational interviewing aims to uncover a person’s internal motivation to change their life. Toward this end, the therapist listens, empathizes, and collaborates with the client based on their perspective; the therapist doesn’t adhere to a predetermined plan for change or impose their viewpoint on the client. Discovering an individual’s most important reasons for change, and guiding them to achieve those changes, can empower people to shift from ambivalence to action.

Is motivational interviewing evidence-based?

Yes, research shows that motivational interviewing can help treat alcohol and substance use — and in different ways such as reducing drinking, reducing resistance, and increasing the likelihood of staying in treatment. Motivational interviewing has also been shown to help people lose weight, adhere to medication regimens, improve diet for those with Type II diabetes, and improve healthy behaviors in children.

How long does motivational interviewing last?

Motivational interviewing is a short-term therapy that can last just one or two sessions. In some cases, motivational interviewing may be used in conjunction with longer-term therapies, but for most people, motivational interviewing is a brief intervention that aims to help patients understand their personal, specific, and internal reasons for changing their life.

What differentiates motivational interviewing from person-centered therapy?

In person-centered therapy, the individual is in the driver’s seat of the treatment process, creating space for them to trust their instincts and arrive at their own solutions. The two approaches are similar because motivational interviewing is also client-centered; however, person-centered therapy is more open-ended while motivational interviewing is somewhat more structured; the goal is to change, and the therapist helps the client specifically discover their internal motivations to modify their behavior.
