In my practice, Rooted & Rising Therapy we come from the belief that we begin at the roots and increase self awareness and get to know ourselves, and then we rise. I can support you in working through an identified challenge, or we can dig a little deeper and work towards creating a life that is based on your values.

Areas of focus include anxiety, depression, relationship issues, self esteem, lifestyle balance, stress management, and motivation. I also have extensive experience working with dual disorders and substance use. Experience in both my professional and personal life has taught me that we all need help and support at times, and I hope to normalize asking for and embracing help and support. I know that reaching out for help is hard. Being vulnerable takes courage. I can appreciate the challenge of committing to make changes for a better life, and I am here to provide a safe and accepting space to do that.

Opening up and allowing yourself to be vulnerable can be very difficult. I offer an environment that cultivates safety, kindness and open-mindedness. This is a priority in my practice. I strive to make each session as relaxed and smooth as possible, with a little bit of humor thrown in! Since I see the person as a whole, I do not believe in diagnostic labels, therefore I treat the symptoms, not the diagnosis. I believe introspection and self-awareness are the key to finding self-acceptance, healing and peace. That being said, I would feel privileged to join you on this journey!

While I use person centered therapy to meet each client where they are at, interventions such as CBT, DBT, REBT, IFS, mindfulness and motivational interviewing are used throughout therapy to retrain the brain.
Close your eyes and take a moment to reflect back on the last time you felt a sense of peace and belonging or your inner light sparked joy. Maybe you want to experience more of this or need guidance on how to create it. Take a moment and thank yourself for prioritizing your motivation to change, heal, and become that best version of yourself today.

I use a person centered approach to meet you where you are, in combination with interventions such as CBT, DBT, somatic-based interventions, and motivational interviewing.
Feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or out of control? Are your worries preventing you from doing the things you love? If so, you are not alone. Anxiety can make you feel worry, fear, anger, and shame. The good news is, you do not have to travel the road to recovery alone. There is hope and you can get better! “Just because no one else can heal or do your inner work for you doesn’t mean you can, should, or need to do it alone” – Lisa Olivera.

It's not whats wrong with you, it's whats happened to you. I believe that our past plays a significant role in our present. Genetics, environments we grew up in, and life experiences all have ways of creating patterns of thoughts and behaviors. When people have a safe, nonjudgmental space to explore their thoughts and feelings, they can begin to process the experiences, gain understanding of themselves, and start healing. I pull from CBT, DBT, client centered therapy, motivational interviewing, mindfulness practices, and psychoeducation to help clients gain awareness, understanding, and tools to move forward from the past.

I am also able to draw on techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing to help clients manage emotions, control behaviors, and goal plan.
My goal as a therapist is to create an environment in which my clients can safely work though the complexities of their thoughts, feelings, and personal experience. While our modern lives are increasingly complex and daunting, we often struggle with the basic self-acceptance and interpersonal relating needed to open ourselves up to the potential both within ourselves and for satisfaction in our lives. The aim of the therapeutic process is to allow for insight and understanding through open, honest communication.

In combination, CBT, motivational interviewing, person-centered therapy and mindfulness provide a powerful toolkit for individuals to navigate life's challenges, build resilience, and cultivate a more fulfilling and balanced life.
My mission is to utilize individual therapy with a focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness to help clients of all ages, from teens to older adults, improve their mental well-being. Utilizing CBT to help individuals identify and challenge negative thoughts and beliefs that may be contributing to their difficulties. By replacing these thoughts with more positive and realistic ones, clients can experience a positive shift in their emotions and behaviors. Mindfulness, on the other hand, involves being fully present in the moment and non-judgmentally observing one's thoughts, feelings, and sensations.

Motivational Interviewing Therapists

How does motivational interviewing work?

Motivational interviewing aims to uncover a person’s internal motivation to change their life. Toward this end, the therapist listens, empathizes, and collaborates with the client based on their perspective; the therapist doesn’t adhere to a predetermined plan for change or impose their viewpoint on the client. Discovering an individual’s most important reasons for change, and guiding them to achieve those changes, can empower people to shift from ambivalence to action.

Is motivational interviewing evidence-based?

Yes, research shows that motivational interviewing can help treat alcohol and substance use — and in different ways such as reducing drinking, reducing resistance, and increasing the likelihood of staying in treatment. Motivational interviewing has also been shown to help people lose weight, adhere to medication regimens, improve diet for those with Type II diabetes, and improve healthy behaviors in children.

How long does motivational interviewing last?

Motivational interviewing is a short-term therapy that can last just one or two sessions. In some cases, motivational interviewing may be used in conjunction with longer-term therapies, but for most people, motivational interviewing is a brief intervention that aims to help patients understand their personal, specific, and internal reasons for changing their life.

What differentiates motivational interviewing from person-centered therapy?

In person-centered therapy, the individual is in the driver’s seat of the treatment process, creating space for them to trust their instincts and arrive at their own solutions. The two approaches are similar because motivational interviewing is also client-centered; however, person-centered therapy is more open-ended while motivational interviewing is somewhat more structured; the goal is to change, and the therapist helps the client specifically discover their internal motivations to modify their behavior.
