I am passionate about helping individuals overcome negative beliefs they may have about themselves, others, or the world, specifically after a trauma or an adverse life experience. My clinical training in CBT, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI), allows me to have a unique perspective to help individuals identify what is keeping them stuck and find ways to create a new narrative to their lives. In addition to trauma, I work with individuals with anxiety, depression, mood disorders, low self-esteem, addictions, ADHD, and relationship concerns.

I utilize evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Behavioral Activation to assist clients with learning the connections between thoughts, feelings, and behavior, as well as to learn and use effective coping strategies.
I am licensed in New York and New Jersey with 17 years of experience helping adults and adolescents with depression, stress and anxiety, coping with addictions, motivation, self esteem, confidence, and bipolar disorder, among other conditions. I utilize a mix of humor and empathy, and focus on empowering my clients. I like to take the client's lead as to whether they prefer a more passive, listening approach or if they want to set and achieve goals. I can assign weekly tasks to achieve goals or take a less active approach.

After receiving my graduate degree from Boston University, I pursued additional training in trauma focused cognitive behavior therapy, parent/teen mediation, addiction training, and motivational interviewing.
Have you wondered if you would benefit from therapy? I offer a complimentary consultation to discuss any questions you may have. As a senior therapist at Greenwich Psychology Group, I enjoy working with children and adolescents that may be struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, behavioral or family issues. You can talk to me about anything; nothing will surprise me. I am accessible to parents and easy to talk to. I focus on your child, recognize their strengths, and develop tools to become their own therapist by learning how to deal with challenges. Clients often feel better early on in treatment.

I focus on strengths and use motivational interviewing to enhance one’s intrinsic motivation and confidence needed to make changes in life.
Do you sometimes have a hard time accepting parts of yourself or your feelings that you are experiencing? Perhaps you know what you should do, but just can't do it no matter how much advice others give you. Or perhaps you feel sad, angry or stuck and don't see a way out. Therapy can be a place where you can gain clarity regarding your feelings, needs and desires as well as a place to look at parts of yourself you might be scared to look at. You are never one identity, one feeling, one experience, but rather many all at once. Life is hard, especially under captialism and systemic oppression. You got this, one step at a time.

We will use Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), intuitive quality listening and Divine Intervention to support your transformation process.
People often ask me, "What is the purpose of therapy?" I believe there are a few answers to that question. First, you come to therapy to defrost grief, unexpressed rage and other negative feelings, e.g. traumas, losses, betrayals. You also learn to re-parent yourself. Second, you come to have a better transition in your work or love life, or to improve your performance and personal relations. Finally, you get to share your dreams and goals in a safe environment, with no judgment, and to produce amazing action plans to manifest your best life ever.

The goal is always to create a safe holding environment that will allow the individual to tune in to their strengths, challenge their negative thought patterns and allow the individual to establish a healthy sense of self and be the best versions of themselves with use of (but not exclusive) strengths based therapy, CBT and Motivational interviewing.
I believe in client centered work and meeting individuals where they're at. One method or therapeutic style does not work for everyone, and I believe in being present and non – judgmental. These are core principles in building a healthy therapeutic alliance. I have held many hats and played many roles in the field and have worked with a wide range of individuals of all ages and backgrounds. I help individuals gain insight and confidence that they can navigate through the world on their own speed and time, helping them to appreciate their process and be proud of whom they are.

Motivational Interviewing Therapists

How does motivational interviewing work?

Motivational interviewing aims to uncover a person’s internal motivation to change their life. Toward this end, the therapist listens, empathizes, and collaborates with the client based on their perspective; the therapist doesn’t adhere to a predetermined plan for change or impose their viewpoint on the client. Discovering an individual’s most important reasons for change, and guiding them to achieve those changes, can empower people to shift from ambivalence to action.

Is motivational interviewing evidence-based?

Yes, research shows that motivational interviewing can help treat alcohol and substance use — and in different ways such as reducing drinking, reducing resistance, and increasing the likelihood of staying in treatment. Motivational interviewing has also been shown to help people lose weight, adhere to medication regimens, improve diet for those with Type II diabetes, and improve healthy behaviors in children.

How long does motivational interviewing last?

Motivational interviewing is a short-term therapy that can last just one or two sessions. In some cases, motivational interviewing may be used in conjunction with longer-term therapies, but for most people, motivational interviewing is a brief intervention that aims to help patients understand their personal, specific, and internal reasons for changing their life.

What differentiates motivational interviewing from person-centered therapy?

In person-centered therapy, the individual is in the driver’s seat of the treatment process, creating space for them to trust their instincts and arrive at their own solutions. The two approaches are similar because motivational interviewing is also client-centered; however, person-centered therapy is more open-ended while motivational interviewing is somewhat more structured; the goal is to change, and the therapist helps the client specifically discover their internal motivations to modify their behavior.
