Are you considering a major life change or looking for something different for yourself? Perhaps this brings about increased levels of stress and anxiety. I work with many people trying to do the same and have found that process of realizing goals and figuring out the next steps can lie in the smaller moments of your past. I can help you identify and leverage those experiences to discover your own inner resources and strengths. Together, we can explore how to apply those skills to meet new challenges and move forward. Whether you need to practice a bit more or adapt to a new task, therapy with me is a safe space to do just that.

It takes a lot of courage to ask for help. Choosing therapy means that you recognize something is negatively impacting you & you want to proactively do something to make it better. As a therapist, I believe that mental & physical health are interconnected. Many of us learned to bury negative emotions in order to fit in, earn love or be accepted. Unexpressed emotions live in our body & are often expressed physically, in the form of anxiety. My approach is holistic, using a combination of evidence-based practice therapies, including CBT, ACT, Motivational Interviewing & Mindfulness.

I tailor therapy to meet the needs of each individual client, however, I have experience in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, CBT, Mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing.
I believe therapy is a gift that allows one's inner strength to emerge while our personal journey through life's experiences makes us who we are. All this takes place within a strong, non-judgmental, therapeutic relationship that is built on empathy, trust, safety, and compassion. I have a calm, warm, relaxed style and believe in creating a safe space for you where compassion, support, and humour can live.

Alongside utilizing art psychotherapy, I integrate modalities such as trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness-based practices.
There are challenges that we experience in life in which resilience and hope seem distant while stress, uncertainty, and anxiety are inevitable. Struggling with trauma, transitions, or overwhelming emotions can feel depleting. A combination of art psychotherapy incorporating various treatment approaches may offer you the tools needed to tackle the obstacles you are facing in your life. I view the dynamics of our therapeutic relationship as if we were driving in a car together. You are ultimately the driver- hitting the brakes, pressing on the gas, changing direction of the steering wheel, and most importantly in control of the car.

I don’t believe that one size fits all, so I make sure to utilize a combination of skills such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Mindfulness, Person-Centered Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.
The first step is always the hardest, no matter what you’re struggling with. I believe that with the right tools and mindset, you can make some serious changes to the way you live your life. I specialize in working with adolescents, young adults, and adults who struggle with ADHD, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, trauma, grief, relationship complications, and LGBTQ issues. In my practice, I make sure to create a safe, welcoming, judge-free environment where you are free to be yourself.

Rooted in a Person-Centered Approach, I draw upon strength-based Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Mindfulness-Based Practices.
I view therapy as a partnership and work well with clients who are driven to gain understandings of themselves and life, both autonomously and collaboratively. Every person has their own strengths, which can be harnessed to develop insight and change into their lifestyles and perspectives. I also acknowledge that everyone has their own past experiences that have led them to today. I strive to establish rapport with my clients and a space to feel safe and validated to foster a deeper level of empowerment, personal growth and self-acceptance.

I utilize Cognitive Behavior Therapy to process negative core beliefs, Motivational Interviewing Techniques to resolve ambivalence, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to process traumatic memories.
Trauma impacts all areas of life. We may experience sudden, intrusive memories of childhood experience. We may struggle to manage our own children, and we may have problems connecting with others and building healthy relationships. Psychotherapy can help you re-frame your experience, and assist you in identifying, clarifying and prioritizing your values and coping skills, opening the door to a more meaningful life.

Motivational Interviewing Therapists

How does motivational interviewing work?

Motivational interviewing aims to uncover a person’s internal motivation to change their life. Toward this end, the therapist listens, empathizes, and collaborates with the client based on their perspective; the therapist doesn’t adhere to a predetermined plan for change or impose their viewpoint on the client. Discovering an individual’s most important reasons for change, and guiding them to achieve those changes, can empower people to shift from ambivalence to action.

Is motivational interviewing evidence-based?

Yes, research shows that motivational interviewing can help treat alcohol and substance use — and in different ways such as reducing drinking, reducing resistance, and increasing the likelihood of staying in treatment. Motivational interviewing has also been shown to help people lose weight, adhere to medication regimens, improve diet for those with Type II diabetes, and improve healthy behaviors in children.

How long does motivational interviewing last?

Motivational interviewing is a short-term therapy that can last just one or two sessions. In some cases, motivational interviewing may be used in conjunction with longer-term therapies, but for most people, motivational interviewing is a brief intervention that aims to help patients understand their personal, specific, and internal reasons for changing their life.

What differentiates motivational interviewing from person-centered therapy?

In person-centered therapy, the individual is in the driver’s seat of the treatment process, creating space for them to trust their instincts and arrive at their own solutions. The two approaches are similar because motivational interviewing is also client-centered; however, person-centered therapy is more open-ended while motivational interviewing is somewhat more structured; the goal is to change, and the therapist helps the client specifically discover their internal motivations to modify their behavior.
