**Apologies, I don't have immediate availability for new clients, and currently have a wait list.** Since 2004, I have helped clients going through overwhelming stress, anxiety, fear, depression, and grief. Work stress, dysfunctional relationships, and our own negative patterns can make life seem unbearable and lonely. The compassion, warmth, and understanding of an experienced therapist can help turn things around.

Preferred Clinical Modalities: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, Reality Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Psycho-education and others.
NOW ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS! Skip feels a connection when helping others develop insight to make positive changes in their lives. Skip believes that thoughts and feelings are the impetus that drive human behavior. His approach then to therapy is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Theory. In creating a paradigm shift from negative thoughts and feelings to increased positive thoughts and feelings, maladaptive behaviors often dissipate. Skip also believes that traumatic experiences exacerbate the lives of many of his clients and therefore, utilizes Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

I am trained in Motivational Interviewing, Seeking Safety, Interpersonal Therapy, and Trauma-Focused CBT.
My clients bring in a range of issues and have varying ideas of what they would like to change about themselves and/or their lives -- but they all have one thing in common, and that is motivation for change. Therapy can, and should, be a place for self-reflection and self-improvement and I am here to support that process. While a lot of my experience has been with children/adolescents and mood disorders, I approach every client with an open mind and heart, and strive to always create a safe and inviting space.

Originally from Scotland, I use a variety of common-sense approaches as well as a good dose of humor in helping people find their way back to sanity! Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing, I bring a compassionate, non-judgmental warmth to the counseling process.
Life can be rough. If you're a parent of an ADHD teenager, do you really think that nagging more will change his behavior? Or maybe you're struggling to find meaning in your life, wondering about your role as a man in today's world, as a husband, as a father. Or maybe you're just so tired of being anxious and depressed...Or now that you're sober, perhaps you want to deepen and develop your recovery from addiction?

As a counselor, I focus on creating a safe and trusting environment within the therapy room. Motivational Interviewing Therapists
Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a method of therapy that works to engage the motivation of clients to change their behavior. Clients are encouraged to explore and confront their ambivalence. Therapists attempt to influence their clients to consider making changes, rather than non-directively explore themselves. Albuquerque Motivational Interviewing is frequently used in cases of problem drinking or mild addictions. Check these therapists for Motivational Interviewing in Albuquerque.
