The specialty I have mastered over the years is a mindfulness approach as well as motivational interviewing techniques which afford the person to understand their ambivalence to change and embrace their own journey toward health.
How many of us have issues past or present which cause pain in our life? Therapy is an opportunity for us to be freed by processing our feelings and thoughts in a safe environment so that we can move on and grow. I offer over 20 years experience of working with those who have suffered with trauma, addiction, mental health and spiritual pain. Those who have come to me find the journey to inner peace which leads to emotional wellness is achievable as long as the person is willing to share and be honest with them self. Why stay in pain when there is a way to feel at peace?

I have received certifications in Trauma-Focused CBT, Assertive Community Treatment, Motivational Interviewing, and Complicated Grief Therapy, as well as in CPI's OCD, Eating Disorders, and LGBTQ+ curricula.
I have had a lifelong passion for sexual health and believe it can be an integral part of our well-being. I hope to help people surmount any obstacles to engaging in the sex they want to have, whether that be due to anxiety or depression, body image or self-esteem issues, challenges with relationships or desire, questions of identity, or sexual difficulties after trauma or STI diagnosis. My goal is to help clients overcome the taboo of talking about sex and sexuality, to free themselves from the sexual shame and stigma that is inherent in our society, and to aid people in finding pleasure in themselves, their bodies, and each other.

I utilize an eclectic approach and pull from training in different evidence based and person centered therapy modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), CBT for Anxiety, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused CBT, and Motivational Interviewing.
Hello and welcome! If you’ve landed here, you’ve taken the first step in seeking support for yourself or a loved one, and that effort should be celebrated. The idea of sharing details about personal lives with a stranger can be scary. Many people make the choice to connect with a trained therapist and end up finding value in having an unbiased person outside of their friend/family group listen, validate, and share helpful strategies. I have been practicing as a licensed therapist since 2016 and I find great meaning in being able to partner with people as they move closer towards healing and growth.

Motivational Interviewing Therapists

How does motivational interviewing work?

Motivational interviewing aims to uncover a person’s internal motivation to change their life. Toward this end, the therapist listens, empathizes, and collaborates with the client based on their perspective; the therapist doesn’t adhere to a predetermined plan for change or impose their viewpoint on the client. Discovering an individual’s most important reasons for change, and guiding them to achieve those changes, can empower people to shift from ambivalence to action.

Is motivational interviewing evidence-based?

Yes, research shows that motivational interviewing can help treat alcohol and substance use — and in different ways such as reducing drinking, reducing resistance, and increasing the likelihood of staying in treatment. Motivational interviewing has also been shown to help people lose weight, adhere to medication regimens, improve diet for those with Type II diabetes, and improve healthy behaviors in children.

How long does motivational interviewing last?

Motivational interviewing is a short-term therapy that can last just one or two sessions. In some cases, motivational interviewing may be used in conjunction with longer-term therapies, but for most people, motivational interviewing is a brief intervention that aims to help patients understand their personal, specific, and internal reasons for changing their life.

What differentiates motivational interviewing from person-centered therapy?

In person-centered therapy, the individual is in the driver’s seat of the treatment process, creating space for them to trust their instincts and arrive at their own solutions. The two approaches are similar because motivational interviewing is also client-centered; however, person-centered therapy is more open-ended while motivational interviewing is somewhat more structured; the goal is to change, and the therapist helps the client specifically discover their internal motivations to modify their behavior.
