During sessions, I use a mix of motivational interviewing, compassion and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), among other appropriate techniques. Also, I'm experienced in utilizing CBT, DBT, Mindfulness Based Practices, Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy, ACT, and REBT.
Whether you've seen a therapist before, or are reaching out for support for the first time, beginning with new therapist can feel scary or uncertain. I respect these feelings and work with my clients to create an empowering dynamic. I believe in the power of an honest, open, and empathetic space of healing. When individuals feel heard, validated, and supported in a non-judgmental environment that's when the healing begins, and I try my best to create exactly that for my clients. I strive to assist clients in navigating their lives to help them reach their goals by focusing on a person's uniqueness and individual strengths.

I utilize motivational interviewing, CBT, mindfulness, and emotion focused techniques to help you explore and understand who you are.
We all struggle with wondering who we are and what we are here for! This is part of being human. If you are struggling it can feel horrible and influence the lens you see the world through. Maybe you’re looking for healing and restoration around a painful event, fertility journey, pregnancy or postpartum experience. Are you searching for your voice, meaning, and hope? Your faith and spirituality are important to you, but do you experience disconnect in knowing how to live a transformed life? Do you just want to be a more authentic person and know counseling helps in some way with that?

I work from a range of therapeutic models including: Behavioral Activation, Motivational Interviewing, Behavioral Therapies (CBT, ACT), Strengths Based Practice, Emotion Focused Therapy (Individuals and Couples) and Cultural Humility.
Why do I feel this way? This question has come up in so many versions throughout my sessions with youth, adults and families. Sometimes the question is focused on others. Working with a therapist can be a chance to self-reflect with encouragement. To skillfully challenge that internalized voice. To learn and practice changing out of control habits. In my work, I prioritize compassion and acceptance as well. If you’re looking to work on change but recognize the importance of building connection, community and acceptance then please reach out. I genuinely believe that we benefit from growing.

I use narrative therapy techniques as well as motivational interviewing in my practice and have experience in ACT and internal family systems.
Everybody deserves a space to feel safe, seen, heard, and respected. Therapy is a possible place for this to happen and I would love to be a part of that journey. Together, we can work through challenging emotions, feelings, thoughts, and social hurdles that come up. My job is to hold space for you and those challenges so that they can be explored without judgement or fear and to remind you that you are not alone when the journey feels lonely. I service teens and adults that are looking to learn more about themselves, grow into their values, and recognize and cultivate the strength that is already within them.

My approach is holistic, meaning I integrate humanistic, cognitive behavioral, motivational interviewing and psychodynamic modalities into my approach.
The most important thing I want potential clients to know is that I truly love doing therapy and sincerely care about the people I with work with. The belief that clients can create greater self awareness, insight and transformation through a non-judgmental, safe and compassionate relationship is the foundation of my approach. By providing an open and collaborative space, clients can explore their thought patterns, emotional/somatic states and behavioral experience to promote meaningful changes. I bring a warm smile, a curious, gentle, down to earth manner, a sense of humor and an authentic self into the therapy room.

I utilize an integrative approach in my work, individualizing treatment to the needs of each person; this can include cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, Erickson’s theory of development, and mindfulness methods.
My areas of interest include working with adolescents, young adults, and families/couples. In addition, as a South Asian immigrant, I am passionate about working with the BIPOC and immigrant communities to help normalize therapy. I know that these populations often experience struggles specifically relating to their identity and culture and thus I am always working through a culturally competent lens and learning how intersectionality affects one’s mental health. Overall, I help guide those I work with through life challenges, the difficulties of interpersonal relationships, the complex reactions of trauma, and anxiety/stress.

Motivational Interviewing Therapists

How does motivational interviewing work?

Motivational interviewing aims to uncover a person’s internal motivation to change their life. Toward this end, the therapist listens, empathizes, and collaborates with the client based on their perspective; the therapist doesn’t adhere to a predetermined plan for change or impose their viewpoint on the client. Discovering an individual’s most important reasons for change, and guiding them to achieve those changes, can empower people to shift from ambivalence to action.

Is motivational interviewing evidence-based?

Yes, research shows that motivational interviewing can help treat alcohol and substance use — and in different ways such as reducing drinking, reducing resistance, and increasing the likelihood of staying in treatment. Motivational interviewing has also been shown to help people lose weight, adhere to medication regimens, improve diet for those with Type II diabetes, and improve healthy behaviors in children.

How long does motivational interviewing last?

Motivational interviewing is a short-term therapy that can last just one or two sessions. In some cases, motivational interviewing may be used in conjunction with longer-term therapies, but for most people, motivational interviewing is a brief intervention that aims to help patients understand their personal, specific, and internal reasons for changing their life.

What differentiates motivational interviewing from person-centered therapy?

In person-centered therapy, the individual is in the driver’s seat of the treatment process, creating space for them to trust their instincts and arrive at their own solutions. The two approaches are similar because motivational interviewing is also client-centered; however, person-centered therapy is more open-ended while motivational interviewing is somewhat more structured; the goal is to change, and the therapist helps the client specifically discover their internal motivations to modify their behavior.
