My practice supports anyone who is looking to explore a new role, identity, or challenging life situation, especially caregivers, parents, and older adults. I have special expertise in dementia/cognitive impairment, caregiving, and long-term care.

My desire as a bilingual licensed clinical social worker is to help individuals to find solutions. relief; balance, strength, and insight in their own ability to cope with life’s problems. I tailor my therapy in order to meet the needs of my patients incorporating Cognitive Behavioral therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Family Systems, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. Throughout my extensive career, I have personally incorporated effective listening skills which I personally have observed to be meaningful in developing a strong client-provider relationship.

In my practice, I always start with genuine empathy to create a safe, nonjudgmental space. My therapeutic approach is action-oriented and primarily present-focused. My eclectic treatment interventions pull from behavioral, cognitive, motivational interviewing, and superhero therapy perspectives. I work together with my clients to find a strategy that specifically addresses their needs. Through helping develop coping skills, healthy boundaries and positive self-talk mantras, I empower my clients to face and overcome the obstacles in their path.

My name is Sandra Mosqueda and I am a Latino Bi-Cultural Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I graduated from Loyola University with my BA in Education. I have a Masters in Social Work from the University of Chicago, SSA. I am fluent in Spanish. My passion is working with youth and families to provide them with the necessary tools to regain their strength and empower them to move forward. I have also worked with local schools and facilitated workshops during parent meetings. I deliver workshops on self-care, trauma, communicating with your child, and other relevant topics. My beliefs are clients hold the keys to their own healing and addressing the trauma in their lives. You have to be the driving force and navigator behind the pursuit of a healthy mind, body, and spirit. The act of being heard and understood is healing in-and-of itself, but an outside view, to guide or push us down the path of self-enlightenment and self-healing, helps. I understand the idea & process of gaining self-awareness via counseling can seem overwhelming and intimidating, but I believe it's actually a safe opportunity for personal growth, development, and achievement.

Let's start with honoring life... Due to my extensive background and years of professional experience, I am comfortable working with children, youth, adults, couples, and families. I started my training/experience with children and continued servicing all ages. I have worked in many venues of service: mental health, medical, educational, hospice, trauma, supervisory, administrative... providing services to people facing situations that are unknown or a challenge to them. Depression, anxiety (and all the features associated with these two diagnostics), as well as relational and other life issues, are areas that I service.

In my 10 years of helping individuals, families, and communities I have realized we all have needs/wants and those needs/wants matter. We all come to therapy with unique experiences, and you are the expert of your experience. Sometimes things can become too difficult to handle on our own and we need some extra help figuring out the best way to move forward.

Therapy is unique to every person. No matter if you are a teen or an adult, there are times in our lives when we need a helping hand or person to sit with us as we process and explore our inner selves or the impact life has on us. My practice is about being there with you and offering positive regard for you and the work you are doing, and developing a space that is safe for you to explore and heal wounds. I am a passionate and empathetic therapist with strong counseling abilities and an understanding of interpersonal familial relationships. I have experience leading clients through their struggles with interpersonal issues, anxiety, depression, and life transitions. Through clinical experience, compassion, and empathy I support and assist those willing to make a positive difference in their lives.

Being a therapist is a huge responsibility that I do not take lightly. I know that being vulnerable in therapy can be a challenge. The change process can also be difficult. Having said that, I do this work because I have seen change and healing happen throughout my career. Before this process can begin, it is useful to know the underlying contributing factors to the problem (s); as those factors should influence therapy. It can be difficult to change something that you do not understand.

We all struggle with obstacles that seem insurmountable but I believe everyone has the power within themselves to reach for the stars. Sometimes it takes baby steps and often we need someone we can trust to lend a helping hand.
