In my practice, I combine cognitive behavioral therapy with motivational interviewing and mindfulness exercises to help you find solutions in the present moment.
Are you feeling stuck in life, unable to move forward and grow? Life can sometimes feel out of control, leading to feelings of anxiety, depression, anger, frustration, loneliness, isolation, and boredom. These emotions can lead to unhealthy coping mechanisms such as drug or alcohol abuse, excessive spending, or other destructive behaviors. My approach focuses on helping clients regain control and develop healthy coping skills. I work with young adults, adults and couples, specializing in LGBTQ issues, substance abuse and co-occurring disorders, trauma, and mood disorders.

I have experience with evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.
Using a non-judgmental, empathic, and warm approach, I like to meet each client where they are at and utilize the modalities that best suit their needs. I believe that by creating a safe space to feel heard and understood, the therapeutic relationship can foster increased self-awareness, acceptance, and personal growth in many ways. I enjoy working with women, including college/graduate students and young adults. I have experience treating anxiety, depression, women’s issues, body image/self-esteem issues, and managing life stressors and transitions.

I am a trauma informed therapist trained in different modalities, including EMDR, Mindfulness, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, & other Strength Based Modalities.
Our mind supports us in so many ways. But from time to time our mind needs support just like the rest of our body. Events in our life may impact our mind. You might have just gotten some challenging health news, recently lost a loved one, or sometimes it’s something from your past that keeps popping up. Or it could be the day to day of witnessing sadness in the news. Regardless of the reason, your mind deserves the same care as the rest of your body. My specialties include trauma, grief, anxiety, and health conditions (including fertility journeys and perinatal care).

I utilize a unique blend of person-centered therapy, cognitive-behavioral treatment (CBT), motivational interviewing, solution-focused, and reality-based modalities.
Many times as People of Color we often feel alone with our situation or don’t feel understood. We may have thoughts that we are not good enough or that we are different. Is that you? I’m here to tell you that you don’t have to suffer in silence anymore.  I recognize that our past has influenced our present-  but it does not need to dictate our future! I provide a warm, non-judgmental approach to help you reframe your story. I believe it is important to feel both seen and heard in therapy. With the right tools, emphatic support, knowledge and determination, everyone can heal, maximize their potential and enjoy life to the fullest.

Motivational Interviewing Therapists

How does motivational interviewing work?

Motivational interviewing aims to uncover a person’s internal motivation to change their life. Toward this end, the therapist listens, empathizes, and collaborates with the client based on their perspective; the therapist doesn’t adhere to a predetermined plan for change or impose their viewpoint on the client. Discovering an individual’s most important reasons for change, and guiding them to achieve those changes, can empower people to shift from ambivalence to action.

Is motivational interviewing evidence-based?

Yes, research shows that motivational interviewing can help treat alcohol and substance use — and in different ways such as reducing drinking, reducing resistance, and increasing the likelihood of staying in treatment. Motivational interviewing has also been shown to help people lose weight, adhere to medication regimens, improve diet for those with Type II diabetes, and improve healthy behaviors in children.

How long does motivational interviewing last?

Motivational interviewing is a short-term therapy that can last just one or two sessions. In some cases, motivational interviewing may be used in conjunction with longer-term therapies, but for most people, motivational interviewing is a brief intervention that aims to help patients understand their personal, specific, and internal reasons for changing their life.

What differentiates motivational interviewing from person-centered therapy?

In person-centered therapy, the individual is in the driver’s seat of the treatment process, creating space for them to trust their instincts and arrive at their own solutions. The two approaches are similar because motivational interviewing is also client-centered; however, person-centered therapy is more open-ended while motivational interviewing is somewhat more structured; the goal is to change, and the therapist helps the client specifically discover their internal motivations to modify their behavior.
