I blend attachment theory, motivational interviewing and solution-focused therapies into the change process while incorporating an underlying systems-based approach.
At times we might find ourselves struggling with these specific concerns: anxiety, depression, life transition, work stress, self-esteem, self-worth, or relationship distress. At these times we need guidance and support to help us achieve our goals. I collaborate with clients throughout their treatment process. I provide a non-judgmental therapeutic space to explore ideas, thoughts, behaviors, and emotions while teaching practical coping skills. I work with college students and professional adults (18+). From the start of us working together I meet you where you're at and we work towards your goal with the purpose of 'graduating'.

I practice a combination of motivational interviewing, CBT, parts work, and I encourage deep reflection.
Do you ever feel like you don’t have the space or time to breathe? Like you’re in survival mode more than thriving? Taking the first step to look for a therapist is a brave decision that I applaud you for. In working together, we can explore the difference between where you are and where you want to be. You can expect to be welcomed into a safe and nonjudgmental environment. I believe the most important aspect of participating in therapy is developing a supportive and trusting relationship with your therapist where you can feel free to explore your thoughts and feeling without fear of judgement.

For parents, I most often utilize motivational interviewing & supporting environmental changes.
I have been working with parents and children for 20 years and I specialize in finding the underlying causes of behavior in order to help children develop an identity as competent and confident young people. When working with and supporting parents, we will develop plans together to help build the skills necessary to modify behavioral outcomes in home and school settings. I work from a solutions-focused perspective that can hopefully generate some quick action steps in addition to the underlying work on causes, building self-esteem, and developing identity.

CBT, DBT, Trauma-Focused CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Person Centered, Strength-Based Therapy are some of the modalities I draw from in my clinical practice.
My mission is to help you uncover your true potential and find your balance to be the best you can be. As a therapist, I've also seen therapy transform the lives of others. To guide people who have experienced little, if any, self-compassion in their lives, through the process of opening their hearts to themselves and coming to care for parts of themselves that they've disliked or struggled with for years, is incredibly rewarding. To witness lives changing through therapy gives me hope that all people have the potential to change and, on a broad scale, gives me hope for our world.

Motivational Interviewing Therapists

How does motivational interviewing work?

Motivational interviewing aims to uncover a person’s internal motivation to change their life. Toward this end, the therapist listens, empathizes, and collaborates with the client based on their perspective; the therapist doesn’t adhere to a predetermined plan for change or impose their viewpoint on the client. Discovering an individual’s most important reasons for change, and guiding them to achieve those changes, can empower people to shift from ambivalence to action.

Is motivational interviewing evidence-based?

Yes, research shows that motivational interviewing can help treat alcohol and substance use — and in different ways such as reducing drinking, reducing resistance, and increasing the likelihood of staying in treatment. Motivational interviewing has also been shown to help people lose weight, adhere to medication regimens, improve diet for those with Type II diabetes, and improve healthy behaviors in children.

How long does motivational interviewing last?

Motivational interviewing is a short-term therapy that can last just one or two sessions. In some cases, motivational interviewing may be used in conjunction with longer-term therapies, but for most people, motivational interviewing is a brief intervention that aims to help patients understand their personal, specific, and internal reasons for changing their life.

What differentiates motivational interviewing from person-centered therapy?

In person-centered therapy, the individual is in the driver’s seat of the treatment process, creating space for them to trust their instincts and arrive at their own solutions. The two approaches are similar because motivational interviewing is also client-centered; however, person-centered therapy is more open-ended while motivational interviewing is somewhat more structured; the goal is to change, and the therapist helps the client specifically discover their internal motivations to modify their behavior.
