I use a variety of theories and interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused, Motivational Interviewing, Relational therapy, and Strengths-Based therapy to support individuals in achieving their goals.
I help individuals in recognizing patterns they may not be aware of so that they are able to have better insight and control over their emotions and behaviors. I provide a curious and compassionate presence in your journey of self-exploration and self-understanding. I believe each one of us is capable of making changes in our lives to overcome the obstacles and barriers that prevent us from being our most authentic selves. I use a client-centered approach which begins with unconditional positive regard and empathetic understanding. I believe this is important to build rapport and create a foundation of trust.

Some of these approaches include motivational interviewing, CBT, and other strength-based modalities.
Life can be challenging, including managing complex emotions and past traumas. However, working with a trusted therapist can provide opportunities for personal growth and healing. As a psychotherapist and Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I believe it is important that you have a safe space to feel heard, supported, and empowered. I graduated from the University of Southern California with a joint Masters in Social Work and Business Administration. I have experience treating a wide range of issues and I primarily work with adult men experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, life transitions, and career or workplace issues.

I use motivational interviewing, CBT, narrative, existential, and mindfulness techniques.
GPS tells you what to do, where to turn, or tells you how long until you get there. I don't give advice as you could get from family, friends, coworkers, or classmates. I create a confidential, non-judgemental, and collaborative space for you to explore your options, address barriers and obstacles, and help you feel confident about making decisions and changes. We work on building on what you know of yourself and being open to learning more and trying something new. We learn to stay calm and grounded so we know what to do when we're lost or get cut off, and you'll get to know you like your area so you won't need to rely on that GPS

I incorporate play and art, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness and Narrative-based modalities to support your overall needs and goals.
I have been supporting families and their children for over 25 years. Before I completed my MSW, I worked as a peer counselor, lactation consultant, and parent educator. That experience enhances and supports my work as a social worker. My early training in engineering and understanding of research provides a broad understanding of development through childhood into adolescence. I utilize a strength-based, and client centered approach to the therapeutic process, identifying personal strengths and direction from the person receiving support.

When we are feeling down and in need of support, we all deserve someone to talk to about our experiences. Sometimes it's not easy to communicate with those we are closest to about what we are feeling. I'm here to support individuals and families in processing their emotions and life experiences in a supportive and constructive environment. My goal when working with families is often to bridge the communication gap between adults and children. Some areas I specializes in are disruptive behaviors, depression, anxiety, trauma, attachment and communication challenges. Please reach out for a consultation if ever you need support.

Therapy is about unraveling root causes of stressors, in order to process and redirect the mannerisms of rediscovering oneself. By gaining healthy therapeutic tools, coping skills and going through the steps of healthy processing individuals learn to live healthier and happier lives. As a psychotherapist I greatly enjoy working with all age ranges where I can incorporate my knowledge of CBT, DBT, PST and mindfulness. I recognize that no single therapeutic approach is inclusive of all clients. Thus, I put emphasis on the individual needs of each client and focus on uncovering the most appropriate therapeutic approaches for all.

My goal as a licensed psychologist is to help individuals, couples, families, and groups find harmony between what they "think," how they "feel," and what they "do" as they work through multiple life challenges and demands. Since its beginning, the vision of my practice has focused on providing culturally-sensitive mental health services to diverse populations exhibiting a full range of difficulties and psychological disorders. This vision is launched from a cognitive-behavioral framework. My practice reflects the insight offered by Albert Einstein: "We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them." Hence, for change to happen, "thinking matters."

My initial approach is to create an open and comfortable atmosphere by using open ended questions, engaging, having the client share about what’s important in their lives, their culture, background, hobbies. From there, explore reasons for coming into therapy - longstanding struggles, more recent/situation, history of trauma, are we in a crisis and are there safety concerns. This helps gauge the treatment interventions. As a feedback-informed, goal-oriented therapist, I would use the cognitive behavioral skill of exploring thoughts and feelings and how those may shape unhealthy/unwanted beliefs about themselves or others.

Motivational Interviewing Therapists

How does motivational interviewing work?

Motivational interviewing aims to uncover a person’s internal motivation to change their life. Toward this end, the therapist listens, empathizes, and collaborates with the client based on their perspective; the therapist doesn’t adhere to a predetermined plan for change or impose their viewpoint on the client. Discovering an individual’s most important reasons for change, and guiding them to achieve those changes, can empower people to shift from ambivalence to action.

Is motivational interviewing evidence-based?

Yes, research shows that motivational interviewing can help treat alcohol and substance use — and in different ways such as reducing drinking, reducing resistance, and increasing the likelihood of staying in treatment. Motivational interviewing has also been shown to help people lose weight, adhere to medication regimens, improve diet for those with Type II diabetes, and improve healthy behaviors in children.

How long does motivational interviewing last?

Motivational interviewing is a short-term therapy that can last just one or two sessions. In some cases, motivational interviewing may be used in conjunction with longer-term therapies, but for most people, motivational interviewing is a brief intervention that aims to help patients understand their personal, specific, and internal reasons for changing their life.

What differentiates motivational interviewing from person-centered therapy?

In person-centered therapy, the individual is in the driver’s seat of the treatment process, creating space for them to trust their instincts and arrive at their own solutions. The two approaches are similar because motivational interviewing is also client-centered; however, person-centered therapy is more open-ended while motivational interviewing is somewhat more structured; the goal is to change, and the therapist helps the client specifically discover their internal motivations to modify their behavior.
