You are not alone. It feels completely isolating to struggle with heavy emotions like depression or anxiety, but you don’t have to do it yourself - I am available to help you navigate through it. As a Filipino-American queer male, my practice is geared towards helping individuals that struggle with identity, lingering traumas, or fear and worry about their future especially those within the Asian-American Pacific Islander (AAPI) and LGBTQ+ communities. Seeking help and talking about some of our darkest and most difficult moments can be really challenging. Wherever you are in your journey, I would be honored to walk alongside you.

Hey, it's really great to meet you, and thanks for checking out this profile. I've been working at this since about 2010 and I've found that one of the best ways to really help people is to just be a person with them. I intend to make sessions relaxed so that you can feel comfortable talking about what's going on. But don't get me wrong, I will definitely challenge you and help analyze what's happening so we can take steps toward growth. I use an eclectic style, primarily built up of cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness-based, and problem-solving techniques.

Who you are: a millennial individual (or couple!) and finally ready to explore therapy. I help you articulate what’s at the root of your concerns: What's important to you? What do you value? How is your life currently aligned with those values and what is getting in the way? I help you better understand yourself, your needs, and how to get those needs met. It is important to me that the space we create is compassionate, curious, reflective, and interactive. Common issues that I work on in therapy include life transitions, managing stress/anxiety, building your sense of Self, relationship concerns, and improving communication.

I have provided therapy for individuals (children K-12 and adults), family, group, and couple sessions for over ten years. My modality is Cognitive Behavioral which means we believe it is not the event itself but how we perceive and react to the circumstance that may cause a problem. I believe that their is healing and growth that comes from fostering a space for other’s to share their life story. In facilitating this process, I will help you process life's events, discover your strengths and areas to improve, and support you in crossing the bridge to your next level. My clients are individuals who are navigating the complexities of trauma, as well as related challenges such as anxiety, depression, and harm OCD. Understanding that each person's experience is unique, I collaborate closely with my clients from the outset to establish tailored therapy goals. In our initial session, we lay the groundwork for our journey together, focusing on objectives that often encompass symptom alleviation, functional enhancement, the development of coping skills, increased self-awareness, and the cultivation of deep, transformative insights.

Do you lack emotional connectedness with your loved ones or suffer from anxiety or depression that inhibits you from forming genuine relationships? You are not alone! Every individual at their core, values intimate, personal relationships with their significant others, family members, and friends. People often come to therapy because they struggle or experience unhappiness in their lives and are unaware of underlying symptoms such as depression, anxiety, shame, low self-esteem, low motivation, or emotional and psychological distress. I can help you address and move through those issues to create a purposeful and meaningful life.

Motivational Interviewing Therapists

How does motivational interviewing work?

Motivational interviewing aims to uncover a person’s internal motivation to change their life. Toward this end, the therapist listens, empathizes, and collaborates with the client based on their perspective; the therapist doesn’t adhere to a predetermined plan for change or impose their viewpoint on the client. Discovering an individual’s most important reasons for change, and guiding them to achieve those changes, can empower people to shift from ambivalence to action.

Is motivational interviewing evidence-based?

Yes, research shows that motivational interviewing can help treat alcohol and substance use — and in different ways such as reducing drinking, reducing resistance, and increasing the likelihood of staying in treatment. Motivational interviewing has also been shown to help people lose weight, adhere to medication regimens, improve diet for those with Type II diabetes, and improve healthy behaviors in children.

How long does motivational interviewing last?

Motivational interviewing is a short-term therapy that can last just one or two sessions. In some cases, motivational interviewing may be used in conjunction with longer-term therapies, but for most people, motivational interviewing is a brief intervention that aims to help patients understand their personal, specific, and internal reasons for changing their life.

What differentiates motivational interviewing from person-centered therapy?

In person-centered therapy, the individual is in the driver’s seat of the treatment process, creating space for them to trust their instincts and arrive at their own solutions. The two approaches are similar because motivational interviewing is also client-centered; however, person-centered therapy is more open-ended while motivational interviewing is somewhat more structured; the goal is to change, and the therapist helps the client specifically discover their internal motivations to modify their behavior.
