Solution Focused therapy, CBT, Strengths Based therapy, Mindfulness Based therapy, DBT, ACT and Motivational Interviewing are tools that I apply in my sessions, prioritizing self-determination and your goals for treatment.
Hello and Seja bem-vindo! I grew up in Brazil and moved to California to pursue my career as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I truly believe that due to life challenges, stressful jobs, career and busy lifestyle, it's very easy to dismiss our inner voice. That is the voice that wants to be heard, tell us about our emotions and hurdles. Allowing your inner voice to be heard will empower you to embrace the beautiful journey of self discovery.

I am formally trained in a variety of modalities, including CBT, EMDR, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD, and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy.
It may feel like many people in your life have an agenda. Whether that’s related to what you do, how you dress, how you act, the relationships you choose- it is easy to feel judged in our lives by the people that surround us. It may be difficult to seek support from a therapist when this has been your experience. I’m here to show you that my only agenda is supporting you in your journey to reach your goals. Through a nonjudgmental and empathic approach, I will offer you guidance and perspective in how you see your life moving forward. I utilize a holistic perspective, engaging in the therapeutic relationship to help you reach goals.

I have specializations in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy & in Motivational Interviewing.
One of the most important things for parents of pre-teens to remember, is that the biggest motivation for your child's behaviors is attention from you. Your child will try all sorts of things to get and keep your attention, and those behaviors that work will increase while those behaviors that don't will typically go away. Children love and thrive on praise from their parents, but in many cases, those behaviors that yield negative attention from you (such as yelling or punishing) will often reinforce those unappreciated behaviors, as well.

My top priority as your therapist is to create a safe space for you to heal. I provide warm, gentle, and open communication using reflective listening, empathy, and validation. I consider myself integrative, in that I intuitively pull from different modalities to support my clients individually. The modalities I tend to use most are relational/person-centered process-oriented therapy, Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). I train to be trauma-informed and culturally responsive.

The philosophy is people + relationship = the good life. One's relationship to others and oneself is the basis of my work. Healing from the past, knowing the freedom of a better life, and becoming able to give and receive love are the transformative results of doing good work. Our work is successful when you become more of the person you are supposed to be: a whole person in life-giving relationship. My specialty is within the overlapping layers of say anxiety, depression, an unfolding course of work, and a better than expected day. Being a generalist, by specialty, my experience is in taking you as I find you.

At some point in our lives, it is not uncommon to find ourselves struggling with emotional pain and daily life challenges. I believe that humans have a large capacity to be autonomous, resilient, and self-directed. My goal is to provide a warm, supportive, and safe environment, where clients can begin to understand and work through the complexities of their emotional and behavioral challenges. I tailor treatment to my client’s strengths and goals, assisting them in breaking maladaptive coping strategies and poor habits while acquiring effective coping skills, which promote new ways of thinking, behaving, and relating to others.

Therapy offers a safe space away from the responsibilities of your daily life, where you can process, recalibrate, and practice new skills. One of my specialties is assisting people in difficult life transitions such as divorce, career change, death of a loved one, or a phase of life transition to name a few. Together, I can help you find some acceptance of the new condition, grieve losses, and find some hope for the new. With couples & families, my goal is to create space for us to slow down, understand the negative cycle you might be stuck in and build in ways of communicating where everyone can feel heard.

Motivational Interviewing Therapists

How does motivational interviewing work?

Motivational interviewing aims to uncover a person’s internal motivation to change their life. Toward this end, the therapist listens, empathizes, and collaborates with the client based on their perspective; the therapist doesn’t adhere to a predetermined plan for change or impose their viewpoint on the client. Discovering an individual’s most important reasons for change, and guiding them to achieve those changes, can empower people to shift from ambivalence to action.

Is motivational interviewing evidence-based?

Yes, research shows that motivational interviewing can help treat alcohol and substance use — and in different ways such as reducing drinking, reducing resistance, and increasing the likelihood of staying in treatment. Motivational interviewing has also been shown to help people lose weight, adhere to medication regimens, improve diet for those with Type II diabetes, and improve healthy behaviors in children.

How long does motivational interviewing last?

Motivational interviewing is a short-term therapy that can last just one or two sessions. In some cases, motivational interviewing may be used in conjunction with longer-term therapies, but for most people, motivational interviewing is a brief intervention that aims to help patients understand their personal, specific, and internal reasons for changing their life.

What differentiates motivational interviewing from person-centered therapy?

In person-centered therapy, the individual is in the driver’s seat of the treatment process, creating space for them to trust their instincts and arrive at their own solutions. The two approaches are similar because motivational interviewing is also client-centered; however, person-centered therapy is more open-ended while motivational interviewing is somewhat more structured; the goal is to change, and the therapist helps the client specifically discover their internal motivations to modify their behavior.
